Sri Lanka Customs (, ) is a ministerial government department in Sri Lanka. The main functions of the department are, * Collection of revenue * Prevention of revenue leakages and other frauds * Facilitation of legitimate trade * Collection of import and export data to provide statistics. * Cooperation and coordination with other Government Departments and stakeholders in respect of imports and exports. The executive responsible is the director general, currently Mr. P.B.S.C. Nonis, appointed in 2022. Formally known as HM Customs from 1947 to 1972, the department can trace its roots to 1806. Formally, the agency as it exists today was formed under the Customs Ordinance No. 17 of 1869, to which 51 amendments have been made to date. The Sri Lankan rupee (, ; Currency symbol, symbol: ₨ in English, රු in Sinhala, ௹ in Tamil; ISO 4217, ISO code: LKR), known until 1972 as the Ceylon rupee, is the currency of Sri Lanka. It is subdivided into 100 cent (currency), cents (, ), but cents are rarely seen in circulation due to their low value. It is issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. Pettah, Sri Lanka
Pettah ( (''Piṭakoṭuwa''), (''Puṟakkōṭṭai'')) is a neighbourhood in Colombo, Sri Lanka, located east of the city centre Fort, and behind the Colombo Port. The Pettah neighborhood is famous for the Pettah Market, a series of open air night pasars and markets. It is one of Sri Lanka's busiest commercial areas, where a huge number of wholesale and retail shops, buildings, commercial institutions and other organisations are located. The main market segment is designed like a gigantic crossword puzzle, where one may traverse through the entire markets from dawn till dusk, but not completely cover every part of it. Colombo Harbour
The Port of Colombo , (known as Port of Kolomtota during the early 14th Century Kotte Kingdom) is the largest and busiest port in Sri Lanka and the Indian Ocean. Located in Colombo, on the southwestern shores on the Kelani River, it serves as an important terminal in Asia due to its strategic location in the Indian Ocean. During the 1980s, the port underwent rapid modernization with the installation of cranes, gantries and other modern-day terminal requirements.
