Gerold Späth (born 16 October 1939 in Rapperswil) is a Switzerland, Swiss author, poet and writer. Life and career Born 1939 in Rapperswil on the Obersee (Zürichsee), ''Obersee'' lakeshore in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland, the son of an organ builder made his studies in London and Fribourg, after a training as an export clerk. Later, he worked in his father's company ''Späth Orgelbau'' in Rapperswil. Thereafter, Gerold Späth undertook several trips and a longer stay in Ireland. Gerold Späth lives and writes mainly in Rapperswil. David Späth (born 29 April 2002) is a German handball player for Rhein-Neckar Löwen and the Germany men's national handball team, German national team. Lothar Späth (16 November 1937 – 18 March 2016) was a German politician of the CDU. Life Späth was born in Sigmaringen. From 30 August 1978 to 13 January 1991 Späth was the 5th Minister President of Baden-Württemberg and chairman of the CDU Baden-Württemberg, serving as the 36th President of the Bundesrat in 1984/85. After leaving politics, Späth headed the Jenoptik company, one of the few former Eastern German state owned enterprises, which survived the transformation into a market economy in a united Germany. He stayed there until 2003. Then he became president of the Industrie- und Handelskammer East-Thuringia in Gera. Franz Jakob Späth
Franz Jakob Späth (or Spath; – 23 July 1786) was a German keyboard instrument builder. He was born and died in Regensburg, where he worked for most of his life. An organ builder by training, he is known, along with his son-in-law Christoph Friedrich Schmahl, as the most prominent builder of tangent pianos. Späth Nursery
The Späth (often spelt ''Spaeth'') family created one of the world's most notable plant nurseries of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The nursery had been founded in 1720 by Christoph Späth but removed to the erstwhile district of Baumschulenweg (lit. 'nursery way'; now part of the Treptow-Köpenick district) in south-east Berlin in 1863 when Franz Ludwig Späth (1839 - 1913) succeeded his father Ludwig as manager when aged only 25. By the end of the 19th century, the nursery was the largest in the world, occupying 120 hectares. In 1874 Franz built a mansion on the site, now part of Humboldt University and, five years later, established an arboretum. After his death in Britz in 1913, Franz Späth was succeeded by his son, Hellmut, who revived the nursery's flagging fortunes during the Depression by joining the Nazi Party and securing lucrative landscaping contracts for the new autobahns and other public works. Hellmut Ludwig Späth (4 December 1885 – 15 February 1945) was a German botanist and plant nursery owner, murdered by the Nazi party. His nursery is now Späth-Arboretum. Biography He was born 4 December 1885, the son of Franz and Wilhelmine Späth, became the sixth and last manager of the Späth nursery on the death of his father in 1913. After studies at Cambridge, Hellmut returned to Berlin in 1910 and received his doctorate in 1912 from the Berlin Agricultural College. His dissertation was titled, ''The Locust Drive - a contribution to the knowledge of periodicity and annual ring formation in deciduous woody plants'', and was published by Paul Parey. Späth-Arboretum
The Späth-Arboretum (3.5 hectares) is an arboretum now maintained by the Humboldt University of Berlin. It is located at Späthstraße 80/81, Berlin, Germany, and open several days per week in the warmer months. About The arboretum was begun in 1879 by Franz Ludwig Späth, owner of the world's largest and oldest tree nursery ( Späth nursery, founded 1720), when he expanded the garden around his 1874 villa. Berlin city gardener Gustav Meyer designed the arboretum in the style of an English garden. On Franz's death in 1913, ownership passed to his son Hellmut, who added a rock garden to the centre in 1928. The first arboretum catalogue published in 1930 listed almost 4,500 taxa. Gertrud "Trudy" Späth-Schweizer (6 December 1908 – 19 October 1990) was the first woman to hold a political office in Switzerland. She was elected to the ''Bürgerrat'', the executive council of the Bürgergemeinde, of Riehen in 1958. Biography Gertrud Späth was born as a farmer's and innkeeper's daughter in Riehen. Ernst Späth (; 14 May 1886 in Moravský Beroun – 30 September 1946 in Zurich) was an Austrian chemist, specializing in natural products. Georg Späth (born 24 February 1981) is a German former ski jumper who competed from 1998 to 2013.
