''SpongeBob SquarePants'' is an American animated television series, animated comedy television series created by marine science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. It first aired as a sneak peek after the 1999 Kids' Choice Awards on May 1, 1999, and officially premiered on July 17, 1999. It chronicles the adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants (character), SpongeBob SquarePants and his aquatic friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Many of the series' ideas originated in ''The Intertidal Zone'', an unpublished educational comic book Hillenburg created in 1989 to teach his students about undersea life. Hillenburg joined Nickelodeon in 1992 as an artist on ''Rocko's Modern Life''. After ''Rocko'' was cancelled in 1996, he began developing ''SpongeBob SquarePants'' into a television series, and in 1997, a seven-minute pilot was pitched to Nickelodeon. Jill Talley is an American actress and comedian. She is a main cast member on the animated series ''SpongeBob SquarePants'', in which she voices Karen Plankton. Her other voice roles include Sarah Dubois on Adult Swim's ''The Boondocks'' and Rita Loud on ''The Loud House''. She is married to Tom Kenny, a co-star from ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. Early life Talley was born in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1981. "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" is the 23rd episode of the SpongeBob SquarePants (season 8), eighth season, and the 175th episode overall of the American animated television program, television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. It originally aired on CBS in the United States on November 23, 2012, and on Nickelodeon on December 6. In the special, Plankton (character), Plankton tries to convince SpongeBob SquarePants (character), SpongeBob to transform everybody in Bikini Bottom into jerks by feeding them his special jerktonium-laced fruitcakes in order to get his Christmas wishthe Krabby Patty secret formula. The episode was produced in stop motion animation at Screen Novelties, and was directed by Mark Caballero and Seamus Walsh, two of the founders of the company. Stephen McDannell Hillenburg (August 21, 1961 – November 26, 2018) was an American animator, writer, producer, director, voice actor, and marine biology educator. Hillenburg was best known for creating the animated television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants'' for Nickelodeon in 1999. The show has become the List of longest-running American television series, fourth longest-running American animated series. He also provided the original voice of Patchy the Pirate's pet, Potty the parrot.
