Split Festival
The Split Festival (officially ''Festival zabavne glazbe Split'' or ''Splitski Festival'') is a pop music festival held annually, in July, in Split, Croatia. It has been held since 1960. It is one of the premier Croatian music festivals. Since its inception, the festival has had over 800 compositions by the country's most famous composers ( Zdenko Runjić, Arsen Dedić, Milica Milisavljević Dugalić, Đelo Jusić, Nikica Kalogjera, Rajko Dujmić, Zrinko Tutić, Đorđe Novković, Alfi Kabiljo), performed by some of the nation's best singers ( Oliver Dragojević, Tereza Kesovija, Kemal Monteno, Radojka Šverko, Ibrica Jusić, Miki Jevremović, Meri Cetinić, Tedi Spalato, Zorica Kondža, Matko Jelavić) and groups ( Dubrovački trubaduri, Pro arte, Indexi, Teška industrija, Novi fosili, Magazin, 777), Đorđi Peruzović, and others. A music festival is a festival, community event with music, performances of singing and instrument playing that is often presented with a theme such as musical genre (e.g., rock music, rock, blues, folk music, folk, jazz, classical music), nationality, locality of musicians, or holiday. Ibrica Jusić
Ibrahim "Ibrica" Jusić (born 15 December 1944) is a Croatian chanson, folk, pop and sevdalinka singer-songwriter and musician. Early life and career beginnings Ibrica Jusić was born as Ibrahim Jusić in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik into a family with seven children. His parents family originates from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina and he grew up listening to sevdalinka and Italian canzone music. Under the direction of his older brother Đelo Jusić (born as Đevalhudin Jusić), who was the leader of the group Dubrovački trubaduri (''Dubrovnik Troubadours''), Ibrica learned to play the guitar. He performed acoustical music and chansons all over Dubrovnik, before officially starting his professional career in 1965 in Zagreb, after being invited by composer Pero Gotovac. Đorđi Peruzović
Đorđi Peruzović is a popular Croatian pop singer. He has been prolific in his recording from the late 1960s through to the 2010s. He had chart success with the song "Where Were You During Thundering". Background He spent his young years in Vrboska on the island of Hvar. He got his start at high school in 1958 performing behind the microphone. He first performed at the Split Prokurative Festival in 1963 with "Balada o tovaru" which was written by Zdenko Runjić. Since then, he has been a regular. By 2014, he had recorded approximately fifty singles and five solo albums. Magazin
Magazin is a Croatian pop band from Split. Founded in 1979 under the name Dalmatinski magazin ("Dalmatian Magazine" in Croatian), the band quickly began to make a mark on local pop music festivals with its songs influenced by Dalmatian folk music. One of the most prominent bands in Yugoslavia and one of the longest lasting, with 45 years active in the music industry in Croatia and former Yugoslavia. Novi Fosili () is a Croatian pop band, one of the most popular music acts in the former Yugoslavia. The group was a phenomenon of Yugoslavian pop music from late 70s until late 80s when they were at the peak of their fame, and were compared to ABBA because of their bright and fun songs with sing-along choruses and contemporary arrangements/ As a group, they released 29 albums (16 studio albums and 13 compilation albums), which have sold millions of copies and they are considered one of the best selling musicians in former Yugoslavia. Teška Industrija (trans. ''Heavy Industry'') is a Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnian and SFR Yugoslav, Yugoslav Rock music, rock band formed in Sarajevo in 1974. The group was formed in 1974 by keyboardist Gabor Lenđel, guitarist Vedad Hadžiavdić, bass guitarist Ivica Propadalo, drummer Senad Begović and vocalist Fadil Toskić, gaining attention of the public after Toskić was replaced by Seid Memić Vajta, Seid Memić "Vajta". Indexi
Indexi was a Bosnian and former Yugoslav rock band popular in Yugoslavia. It formed in 1962 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and disbanded in 2001 when singer Davorin Popović died. Some of their most notable songs are "Svijet u kome živim" and "Negdje u kraju, u zatišju" with lyrics by Želimir Altarac Čičak, "Plima", "Sve ove godine", "Sanjam" and "Bacila je sve niz rijeku", which was later covered by many other ex-Yugoslavian groups, notably Crvena jabuka. Dubrovački Trubaduri
Dubrovački trubaduri ( Croatian for ''"Dubrovnik Troubadours"'') was a Croatian beat, folk and pop band from Dubrovnik formed in 1961 by Đelo Jusić, main composer, guitar and mandolin player and leader of the group. They were very popular in Yugoslavia during the 1960s and 1970s for their mixture of pop music and medieval folk traditions of their native ancient city on the Adriatic coast. Internationally also known as 'Dubrovnic Troubadours or The Troubadours Of Dubrovnik, they enjoyed brief popularity across Western Europe having appeared at the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest in London. Their song " Jedan dan" was performed by their singers Luciano "Lući" Capurso and Hamo Hajdarhodžić and it scored 7th position. Matko Jelavić
Matko Jelavić (born 29 March 1958) is a Croatian and Yugoslav singer, songwriter, and musician. He started his career in 1978, as the drummer for the rock band Metak, releasing two albums with the group. After Metak disbanded in 1981, he started composing and writing songs for other artists, until his debut as a singer on the 1988 Split Festival, where he won first place with his song and biggest hit "Majko stara" ("(Oh) My Old Mother"). Zorica Kondža
Zorica Kondža (born 25 June 1960) is a Croatian pop-rock singer. She is best known for her soprano vocal range, which she displayed as the lead vocalist for the 1980s pop-rock music act ''Stijene''. Since 1981, she had participated in most of the Split Festivals until 2014, which she had won 7 times. Other than the Split festivals, she also took part in various other jamborees in Croatia, such as the Zadarfest, Dora and Mesam.
