Naracoorte Lucindale Council
The Naracoorte Lucindale Council is a local government area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the Limestone Coast region in the south-east of the state adjacent to the Victorian border. It was created on 1 December 1998 following the amalgamation of the District Council of Naracoorte and the District Council of Lucindale. The districts economy is agricultural based, with cereal crops, sheep and beef predominantly farmed. It has a substantial tourist industry as well, with the Naracoorte Caves, Wonambi Fossil Centre and the seasonal Bool and Hacks Lagoons Wetlands being the main attractions. Electoral District Of MacKillop
MacKillop is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It was named in 1991 after Sister Mary MacKillop who served the local area, and later became the first Australian to be canonised as a Roman Catholic saint. MacKillop is a 25,313 km² rural electorate in the south-east of the state, stretching south and west from the mouth of the Murray River to the Victorian State border, but excluding the far-southern point of the state, (which includes Mount Gambier). It contains the Kingston District Council, Naracoorte Lucindale Council, District Council of Robe, Tatiara District Council, Wattle Range Council, as well as parts of The Coorong District Council. The division was established on 2 October 1903, when South Australia's original Division of South Australia, single multi-member division was split into seven single-member divisions. Stewart Range, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Stewart Range (formerly Stewarts and Tryon) is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of the municipal seat of Naracoorte. Stewart Range came in existence as a government town which was proclaimed with the name Tryon on 29 April 1886. It was renamed as Stewarts in 1940. Boundaries for the locality within the former District Council of Lucindale were created in 1998 which includes “the Government Town of Stewarts“ and was given the “long established name” which was derived from a range of hills known as Stewart Range. The portion within the Naracoorte Lucindale Council was added on 12 April 2001. A school named as "Stewart's Range" opened in 1885 and closed in 1945 after a name change in 1941. Its boundaries were created in 2001 firstly for the part in the former District Council of Millicent in April of that year followed in December by the part in the former District Council of Penola. Its name is derived from Bool Lagoon, a freshwater lagoon located within its boundaries. Land use within the locality is divided between agriculture and conservation with the latter being represented by the following protected areas all located in the northern part of the locality - the Bool Lagoon Game Reserve, the Hacks Lagoon Conservation Park and the Mary Seymour Conservation Park. Coles is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's south-east within the Limestone Coast region about south east of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-west of the municipal seat of Naracoorte. Boundaries for the locality were created and was given the name of Coles on 3 December 1998. The name is derived from the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Coles in which the locality is located. The hundred itself was named after Jenkin Coles who was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1875 to 1911. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Coles had a population of 39 people. Coles is located within the federal division of Barker, the state electoral district of MacKillop and the local government area of the Naracoorte Lucindale Council. Lucindale, South Australia
Lucindale is a small town in the south-east of South Australia. The town is located south east of the state capital, Adelaide. At the 2006 census, Lucindale had a population of 301. The town is best known for hosting the annual South East Field Days, attracting over 26,000 visitors every March. History The town was proclaimed on 25 January 1877. It was named after Lady Jeannie Lucinda Musgrave—the wife of the Governor of South Australia, Anthony Musgrave. It was a station on the Kingston-Naracoorte railway line which opened around the same time and closed on 28 November 1987 then dismantled on 15 September 1991. A school was established in 1878. The Post Office opened on 1 May 1877 but was known as Baker's Range for a few months. The locality of Lucindale was proclaimed on 3 December 1998. The Limestone Coast is a name used since the early twenty-first century for a South Australian government region located in the south east of South Australia which immediately adjoins the continental coastline and the Victorian border.
