Speedway Žarnovica
Speedway Žarnovica is a motorcycle speedway stadium and team in the centre of Žarnovica. The stadium is located off the Bystrická, just south of the tributary, which runs though the centre of the town connected to the Hron. The speedway is organised by the Speedway Club Žarnovica. History The stadium opened in 1953 and even when the country was part of Czechoslovakia, it hosted important motorcycle speedway events, including multiple qualifying rounds of the Speedway World Championship, starting in 1979 and a qualifying round of the Speedway World Team Cup in 1986. Žarnovica (; ) is a town and municipality in the Žarnovica District, Banská Bystrica Region in Slovakia. The town is situated in the Hron river valley. It has a population of around 6,000 people. History The first written mention about Žarnovica is dated to 1332. Geography Žarnovica lies at an altitude of above mean sea level, above sea level and covers an area of . It is located in the Žiar Basin in central Slovakia, on the Hron River, between Vtáčnik and Štiavnické vrchy mountain ranges. Czech Republic Team Speedway Championship
The Czech Republic Speedway Team Championships is an annual motorcycle speedway event held each year and organised by the Autoklub České republiky to determine the champions of the Czech Republic. From 1956 until 1991 the competition was for teams in Czechoslovakia, although due to the lack of clubs in Slovakia, it was dominated by Czech teams. The competition is today called the Extraliga for the top division and the 1.Liga for the division below. The Speedway Grand Prix Challenge or Speedway Grand Prix Qualification is an annual speedway qualifying tournament to determine the qualifiers for the Speedway Grand Prix, which is the World Championship of speedway. History From 1995 the Individual World Championship was replaced by the Grand Prix system. The 17 qualifiers for the 1995 Grand Prix were the top 10 from the 1994 World final, 5 seeds and 2 wildcards. From 1996, the leading riders from each Grand Prix series would automatically qualifying for the following year's event. The remaining places would be filled by the leading riders in the Challenge event and qualifiers from both the Continental Speedway Final and Intercontinental Final. However, the latter two finals would come to end in 2000 and 2001 respectively. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . The Individual Speedway European Championship is an annual individual speedway event organized by the European Motorcycle Union (UEM) to determine the champion of Europe. The competition was founded in 2001 and was initially staged as a one-off meeting before the single event was replaced by the Speedway European Championship series in 2012. History From 1955 to 1975, the European Final was staged as the final qualifying round for the World Speedway Championship, although this did not include British riders who had a separate qualifying round.
