Spanish Basketball Federation
The Spanish Basketball Federation (; FEB) is the governing body of basketball in Spain. Based in Madrid, it was founded on 31 July 1923 in Barcelona, Spain. It organizes all the female national competitions ( Liga Femenina (1st), Liga Femenina 2 (2nd), Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España), and three of the four male nation-wide leagues (Primera FEB (2nd), Segunda FEB (3rd) and Tercera FEB (4th)), while oversees the 1st tier, Liga ACB. It is also responsible for appointing the management of the men's, women's, and youth national basketball teams. As of 2023, the federation has 3,069 registered clubs and 411,885 federated basketball players, being the second biggest federation after the Football Federation. Liga ACB
The Liga ACB, known as Liga Endesa for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system. Administered by the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (ACB), Liga ACB is contested by 18 teams, with the two lowest-placed teams Promotion and relegation, relegated to the Primera FEB and replaced by the top team in that division plus the winner of the promotion playoffs. The competition was founded as the ACB Primera División on 1983 following the decision of clubs in the Liga Española de Baloncesto (1957–1983), Liga Nacional, founded in 1957, to break away from the Spanish Basketball Federation and professionalize the league. FIBA Basketball World Cup
The FIBA Basketball World Cup is an international basketball competition between the senior List of men's national basketball teams, men's national teams of the members of the FIBA, International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the sport's global governing body. It takes place every four years and is considered the flagship event of FIBA. From its inception in 1950 until 2010, the tournament was known as the FIBA World Championship. Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the nineteenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was held from 6 August to 21 August 2016. The preliminary and knockout round matches for men were played inside the Carioca Arena 1 in Olympic Park which seated up to 16,000 spectators. The matches for women were played at the Youth Arena. This marked the first time that the men's and women's Olympic tournaments were played in multiple/separate venues. Basketball at the 1984 Summer Olympics was the eleventh appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at The Forum in Inglewood, California, United States from July 29 to August 10. The United States won the gold medal in both events, with the women's team's victory marking their first-ever gold medal. Due to the boycott, the Soviet Union and Hungary withdrew from the tournament. The former, having already qualified for both events was replaced by West Germany in the men's competition, while both nations' women's teams were replaced by Australia and South Korea. Basketball at the Summer Olympics has been a sport for men consistently since 1936. Prior to its inclusion as a medal sport, basketball was held as an unofficial demonstration event in 1904 and 1924. Women's basketball made its debut in the Summer Olympics in 1976. The Spain men's national basketball team () represents Spain in international basketball competitions. They are managed by the Spanish Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Spain. Spain is the current European champion. The Spain Cup (Spanish: ''Copa España'') is a annual 2nd-tier level league cup competition for Spanish basketball teams, that is organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB). It is contested annually by clubs from Primera FEB and Segunda FEB, Spain's 2nd and 3rd-tier level leagues. It was played for the first time in the 2024–25 season.
