Southside Mall (South Williamson, Kentucky)
South Side Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in South Williamson, Kentucky, on U.S. Route 119. Anchor stores are Shoe Show Mega Store and Tractor Supply Company. The mall is also home to South Side Theater. History David Hocker and Richard E. Jacobs group developed the mall in 1980 located in Kentucky but largely serving Williamson, West Virginia. Original tenants included Kroger/ SuperX Drugstore, Kmart, and R. H. Hobbs department store. Dawahares was also an anchor store. By 1983, R. H. Hobbs had closed and been converted to Watson's, which in turn was sold to Peebles in 1998. The Kmart, later the site of Magic Mart, closed in 2002. Dawahares is now Shoe Show. Magic Mart announced that it would close the South Side Mall store in mid-2016. On March 3, 2020, Peebles was converted into Gordmans, which in turn was closed in July 2020, following the filings of bankruptcy from the company. South Williamson is a unincorporated community in the Appalachian Mountains of northeastern Pike County, Kentucky, United States, on the border with West Virginia. It is separated from Williamson, West Virginia by the Tug Fork River. The community is located near U.S. Route 119 about east of Pikeville, Kentucky and southwest of Logan, West Virginia. Dawahares (pronounced DAW-hairs) was an American retail clothing department store chain. It was founded by Sarur Frank (S. F.) Dawahare, who immigrated from Syria in 1907 in Neon, Kentucky, and remained within the family for four generations. In 1979, the company expanded into the Cincinnati, Ohio market by acquiring the five-store Martin's Town & Country chain. Gordmans (stylized as gordmans) was a retailer founded in Omaha, Nebraska. The chain is owned by BrandX as of May 2022. In 2019, Stage Stores began converting other retail chains it owned into Gordmans stores, with the goal of having 700 Gordmans stores in 42 states by the end of 2020. Magic Mart was a chain of department/discount stores headquartered in Bluefield, Virginia. The chain was owned by Ammar's Inc., a private family-owned company. Magic Mart had stores in Eastern Kentucky, Northeastern Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western and Central North Carolina, Arkansas, and southern and western West Virginia. Hook's Drug Stores was an Indianapolis, Indiana–based drug store chain which was founded in 1900 by John A. Hook. The chain flourished throughout central Indiana for most of the 20th century. Hook's did business under its own banner, the SupeRX Drug Stores banner outside its core market, and the Brooks Pharmacy banner after acquiring the New England pharmacy chain. The entire company was eventually purchased by fellow Midwestern drugstore chain Revco.
