Southern Naval Command
The Southern Naval Command is one of the three, command-level formations of the Indian Navy. Southern Naval Command is the largest naval command in India and it has its headquarters in Kochi, Kerala at INS Venduruthy. It is the Training Command of the Indian Navy. The Command is commanded by a Three Star Flag Officer of the rank of Vice Admiral with the title Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command (FOC-in-C). Vice Admiral Vennam Srinivas, AVSM, NM is the current FOC-in-C SNC, who took over on 31 December 2023. History After the independence and the partition of India on 15 August 1947, the ships and personnel of the Royal Indian Navy were divided between the Dominion of India and the Dominion of Pakistan. The division of the ships was on the basis of two-thirds of the fleet to India, one third to Pakistan. INS Garuda
INS Garuda , is an Indian naval air station located in Kochi, in the state of Kerala. Commissioned on 11 May 1953, it is the oldest operating air station of the Indian Navy. The air station is adjacent to INS Venduruthy and the headquarters of Southern Naval Command. INS Garuda is a major naval air training centre as well as an operational base. History The original airstrip near Kochi was built by the Cochin Port Trust to transport senior officials of the British Harbour Corps from the Madras Presidency to supervise the development of modern Kochi port in 1936. Nausena Medal
Nau Sena Medal (also spelt ''Nao Sena Medal'', Literal translation, lit. ''Navy Medal'') is a gallantry award for servicemen in the Indian Navy. History The Nau Sena Medal was instituted on 26 January 1960 by the Government of India, with the approval of the President of India. Five other medals were instituted on the same day - the Vishisht Seva Medal series (Class I, Class II, Class III), the Sainya Seva Medal, Videsh Seva Medal, Sena Medal and the Vayu Sena Medal. Naval War College, Goa
The Naval War College (NWC) is a premier training institution of the Indian Navy, located in Goa. The college aims at developing leadership qualities of the officers of the Indian Armed Forces at the strategic and operational level. It is one of the three War Colleges of the Indian Armed Forces, Army War College, Mhow and College of Air Warfare, being the other two. The NWC operates under the Southern Naval Command, which is the training command of the Indian Navy. History The Naval War College was established on 17 September 1988 as the College of Naval Warfare (CNW) at Karanja in Mumbai. Srinivas Maddula
Rear Admiral Srinivas Maddula is a serving Flag officer in the Indian Navy. He currently serves as the Flag Officer Sea Training. Early life and education Maddula grew up in Kolkata and Hyderabad and was schooled at the St Xavier's Collegiate School and The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet (HPS) respectively. He belonged to the batch of 1989 at HPS. He then joined and graduated from the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. Naval career Maddula was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Jan 1994. Commandant Of Indian Naval Academy
The Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy is the head and in-charge of all the functioning of the Indian Naval Academy. The commandant of the academy is a three-star rank officer holding the rank of vice admiral. He is supported by the deputy commandant, a two-star appointment and the heads of the Academic Wing (rear admiral principal), Training Wing ( commodore rank officer) and the Admin wing ( commodore rank officer). Flag Officer Sea Training (India)
The Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) is a training organisation in the Indian Navy. FOST is the authority responsible for the operational sea training of all personnel of Indian Naval and Coast Guard ships and submarines. The organisation was instituted in 1992 and is the common authority to maintain battle efficiency standards. It also provides training to navies and maritime security forces of friendly foreign countries (FFC).
