Southern Great Plain
The Southern Great Plain ( ) is a statistical ( NUTS 2) region of Hungary. It is part of Great Plain and North (NUTS 1) region. The Southern Great Plain includes the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Békés, and Csongrád-Csanád. The region is in the southern part of Hungary. It borders Central Hungary and the Northern Great Plain regions to the north, Romania to the east, Serbia to the south, and the Southern Transdanubia and Central Transdanubia regions to the west. The regional centre, and capital city is Szeged, the third largest city of Hungary. Csongrád-Csanád County
Csongrád-Csanád ( ) is an administrative county (Counties of Hungary, comitatus or ''vármegye'') in southern Hungary, straddling the river Tisza, on the border with Serbia and Romania. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Bács-Kiskun County, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County and Békés County, Békés. The administrative centre of Csongrád-Csanád county is Szeged. The county is also part of the Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion. History On October 3, 2017, the Hungarian Parliament passed a resolution to rename Csongrád County to Csongrád-Csanád County, which took effect on June 4, 2020. Hungary has 3,152 Municipality, municipalities as of July 15, 2013: 346 towns (Hungarian term: , plural: ; the terminology does not distinguish between city, cities and towns – the term town is used in official translations) and 2,806 villages (Hungarian: , plural: ) of which 126 are classified as large villages (Hungarian: , plural: ). Southern Transdanubia
Southern Transdanubia ( ) is a subdivision of Hungary as defined by the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). It is one of the eight classified NUTS-2 statistical regions of Hungary. The region incorporates the south-western parts of the country, and encompasses an area of . It incorporates three counties – Somogy, Tolna, and Baranya. With a population of just over 0.85 million, it is the least populated of the all the regions in Hungary. The seat of the region and the largest city is Pécs. Classification The country of Hungary was organized into eight regions for administrative purposes by the amendments of Act XXI of 1996. The Northern Great Plain ( ) is a statistical ( NUTS 2) region of Hungary. It is part of the Great Plain and North (NUTS 1) region. Békés County
Békés (, , ) is an administrative division (county or ''vármegye'') in south-eastern Hungary, on the border with Romania. It shares borders with the Hungarian counties Csongrád-Csanád, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, and Hajdú-Bihar. The capital of Békés county is Békéscsaba.
