Southern Districts Rugby Club
Southern Districts Rugby Club is a rugby union club based in southern Sydney. The club currently competes in the New South Wales Rugby Union competition the Shute Shield. The club was formed by the amalgamation of the St George and Port Hacking clubs. History Formed in 1989 by the amalgamation of St George and Port Hacking rugby clubs, with headquarters at Forshaw Park, Sylvania Waters, south of Sydney. The new club played in red, sky blue, white and black jumpers and fielded 6 grade teams, 3 colts' sides, and an under-19XV. Accommodation is limited at Forshaw Park to 2000 but the club has enjoyed splendid support since the amalgamation. St George, founded in 1906, brought to the mix a long record of figuring prominently in 1st grade finals, but not in living memory and with only one premiership win – in 1957, when St George beat Gordon 21–3 in the Grand Final. The New South Wales Rugby Union, or NSWRU, is the governing body for the sport of rugby union within most of the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is a member and founding union of Rugby Australia. Within Australia it is considered the strongest Union. It has the largest player base, biggest population, most suburban clubs, and the oldest running club rugby competition in the country. The southern areas of New South Wales encompassing the Monaro, Far South Coast, and Southern Inland unions are not affiliated with the NSWRU. They are now within the ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union. North Cronulla Beach or ''North Cronulla'' is a patrolled beach on Bate Bay, in Cronulla, New South Wales, Australia. ''The Wall'' is the local name given to the area between North Cronulla Beach and Elouera. ''The Alley'' is the local name given to the permanent rip current located at the southern end of North Cronulla Beach. North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club The North Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club was established by a group of local residents who were concerned about the safety of visitors to the beach. The first patrol of the beach was in 1925, using the reel, line and belt as their only form of rescue equipment. The first clubhouse, which opened in 1926, was a small weatherboard building on the beach, at the end of The Kingsway. Nicholas Mark Cummins (born 5 October 1987), known by his nickname The Honey Badger, is an Australian former professional rugby union player and television personality. Guy Shepherdson (born 17 February 1982 in Jakarta, Indonesia) is an Australian former rugby union professional footballer. He played as a tight-head prop for the Brumbies and Reds in the Super Rugby competition and played for the Australian national team, the Wallabies. Mathew Steve Rogers (born 1 February 1976) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. He also played rugby union at the highest level, becoming a dual-code international. Herbert Samuel Barker (23 June 1929 – 17 May 2006) was an all-around athlete who represented Australia in the hammer throw at the Empire Games and in rugby union as a Wallaby, and played for New South Wales in Basketball. Early life Barker was born in Sydney and was one of four children. His father died when he 14 and he was introduced to a wide variety of sports by Ray Rosbrook, the supervisor of the Moore Park sports centre.
