Southampton Parish, New Brunswick
Southampton is a geographic parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between the town of Nackawic, the village of Millville, and the local service district of the parish of Southampton, all of which were members of Capital Region Service Commission (RSC11). Origin of name When Carleton County was erected in 1832 the new county line went through Northampton Parish. The next year the part of Northampton south of the line was erected as Southampton. History Southampton was erected in 1833 from the part of Northampton Parish that was southeast of the Carleton County line. In 1834 the county line was altered to run along grant lines, adding territory to Southampton. In 1865 the boundary with Queensbury Parish was altered, removing territory east of the East Branch Nackawic Stream. The Canadian province of New Brunswick is divided by the ''Territorial Division Act'' into 152 Parish (administrative division), geographic parishes, units which had political significance as subdivisions of County, counties until the Municipalities Act of 1966. Parishes still exist in law and include any municipality, rural community, or regional municipality within their borders. They provided convenient boundaries for electoral districts and organising delivery of government services for some time after 1966 but were gradually supplanted for such purposes by Local service district (New Brunswick), local service districts (LSDs), which better represent communities of interest. Local governance reforms on 1 January 2023 abolished the local service district as a unit of governance but this did not affect the existence of geographic parishes. New Brunswick Route 104
Route 104 is a highway in New Brunswick, Canada, running from an intersection with the Trans-Canada Highway near Hartland to an intersection with Route 105 at Mouth of Keswick (near Fredericton), a distance of 83 kilometres. From Hartland, Route 104 follows the Becaguimec Stream to the north traveling east through the communities of Coldstream at the south terminus of Route 570, Lower Windsor at the south terminus of Route 580 before turning south east. The road travels through Carlisle and Cloverdale, the east terminus of Route 575, turning southeast through uninhabited forest land through the villages of Maplewood, Hawkins Corner at Route 585, Nackawic-Millville past the north-east terminus of Route 605. Southampton, New Brunswick
Southampton is a Canadian rural community in York County, New Brunswick. The community is located on the east side of the Saint John River, 3.71 km south of Southampton Junction, a station located within the village of Nackawic-Millville, created when the New Brunswick Railway was constructed in the 1870s. History The community was founded in 1787, when land was granted to the Loyalist members of the Pennsylvania Loyalists Regiment. A post office branch was established in 1853 and removed in 1914. In 1866, Southampton was a farming community with approximately 68 resident families. In 1871 Southampton and surrounding district had a population of 300.
