South African Cricket Team In Australia In 1993–94
The South Africa national cricket team toured Australia in the 1993–94 season to play three test matches against Australia in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. These were played from 26 December 1993 to 1 February 1994. The tour was the first made by the South Africa cricket team to Australia in 30 years and was undertaken as the apartheid system was being dismantled in South Africa and the country transitioned to democratic government. Kepler Wessels captained the South Africans in the first two tests. After a hand injury, Hansie Cronje replaced him for the third test. Allan Border was Australia's captain for the series. Before the test series, the South Africans played four matches in the tri-nation ODI tournament with Australia and New Zealand. Allan Border
Allan Robert Border (born 27 July 1955) is an Australian cricket commentator and former international cricketer. A batsman, Border was for many years the Captain (cricket), captain of the Australia national cricket team, Australian team, and led his team to victory in the 1987 Cricket World Cup, the maiden world title for Australia. His playing nickname was "A.B.". He played 156 Test cricket, Test matches in his career, a record until it was passed by fellow Australian Steve Waugh. Border formerly held the world record for the number of consecutive Test appearances of 153, before it was surpassed in June 2018 by Alastair Cook, and is second on the list of number of Tests as captain. The Boxing Day Test match is a cricket Test match held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, involving the Australia national cricket team and an opposing national team that is touring Australia during the southern summer. It begins annually on Boxing Day (26 December) and is played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Timothy Brian Alexander May (born 26 January 1962) is a former Australian cricketer for South Australia. He was, until June 2013, a leading players' representative in his role as Chief Executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA). May played in 24 Tests and 47 ODIs in an injury-interrupted career between 1987 and 1995. May was a part of the Australian team that won their first world title during the 1987 Cricket World Cup and the South Australian team that won the 1995-96 Sheffield Shield Competition. Brett Schultz
Brett Schultz (born 26 August 1970) is a former South African cricketer who played in nine Test matches and one One Day International between 1992 and 1997. During the course of his career, he also played for Eastern Province, Western Province and Gauteng. Schultz’s fast-paced left-handed bowling caused major problems for both right- and left-handed batsmen, evidenced by the 20 wickets which fell in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka in 1993–94, his debut tour. The CAB Jubilee Tournament, also known as Hero Cup for sponsorship reasons, was a cricket tournament played in India in 1993 to commemorate the Cricket Association of Bengal's diamond jubilee. India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe took part in the multi-nation tournament. Envisaged as a six-nation tournament Pakistan pulled out on 3 November 1993, four days before the commencement of the first game. The New Zealand national cricket team toured Australia in the 1993–94 season to play in three test matches against Australia before playing in a tri-series with South Africa. The tour began on October 19, in Perth, Western Australia, against an Australian Chairman XI as they played in five warm-up matches before the test matches in Perth, Hobart and Brisbane. New Zealand were captained by Martin Crowe while the Australians were captain by Allan Border. Before the first test, the tourists played in five tour matches, three first-class and two list A matches.
