Soundgarden Discography
The discography of Soundgarden, an American rock band, consists of six studio albums, two live albums, six compilation albums, eight extended plays, 24 singles and 23 music videos. Soundgarden was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by vocalist Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. The drummer position was originally filled by Cornell until 1986 when Matt Cameron became the band's permanent drummer. The band signed with the independent label Sub Pop and released the ''Screaming Life'' EP in 1987 and the '' Fopp'' EP in 1988. In 1988, the band signed with legendary punk record label SST Records and released its debut full-length album, '' Ultramega OK''. The band subsequently signed with A&M Records, becoming the first grunge band to sign with a major label. In 1989, the band released its first album for a major label, ''Louder Than Love''. Soundgarden
Soundgarden was an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Cornell switched to rhythm guitar in 1985, replaced on drums initially by Scott Sundquist, and later by Matt Cameron in 1986. Yamamoto left in 1989 and was replaced initially by Jason Everman and shortly thereafter by Ben Shepherd. Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 and reformed in 2010. Following Cornell's death in 2017, Thayil declared in October 2018 that Soundgarden had disbanded a second time. The surviving members of the band have continued to occasionally work together since then, including reuniting for a one-off concert in tribute to Cornell in January 2019, and again in December 2024 for a benefit concert in Seattle with Shaina Shepherd on vocals under the anagram Nudedragons. Down On The Upside
''Down on the Upside'' is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Soundgarden, released on May 21, 1996, through A&M Records. Following a worldwide tour in support of its previous album, '' Superunknown'' (1994), Soundgarden commenced work on a new album. Self-produced by the band, the music on the album was notably less heavy and dark than the group's preceding albums and featured the band experimenting with new sounds. The album topped the New Zealand and Australian charts and debuted at number two on the United States' ''Billboard'' 200, selling 200,000 copies in its opening week and spawning the singles " Pretty Noose", " Burden in My Hand", " Blow Up the Outside World", and "Ty Cobb". The band played the 1996 Lollapalooza tour and, afterward, supported the album with a worldwide tour. Black Hole Sun
"Black Hole Sun" is a song by American rock band Soundgarden. Written by frontman Chris Cornell, the song was released in May 1994 by A&M Records as the third single from the band's fourth studio album, '' Superunknown'' (1994). Considered to be the band's signature song, it topped the US ''Billboard'' Album Rock Tracks chart, where it spent a total of seven weeks at number one. Despite peaking at number two on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart, "Black Hole Sun" finished as the number-one track of 1994 for that listing. Worldwide, the single reached the top 10 in Australia, Canada, France, and Ireland, while in Iceland, it reached number one. The accompanying music video was directed by Howard Greenhalgh and received the award for Best Metal/Hard Rock Video at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards. Spoonman
"Spoonman" is a song by American rock band Soundgarden, written by frontman, Chris Cornell, and released on February 14, 1994, as the first single from the band's fourth studio album, '' Superunknown'' (1994). Credited as one of the songs that launched Soundgarden's career into the mainstream, the song peaked at number three on the US ''Billboard'' Album Rock Tracks chart and number nine on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song was included on the greatest hits album '' A-Sides'' and the 2010 compilation album ''Telephantasm'', while remixed version by Steve Fisk appears on the "Black Hole Sun" and " My Wave" singles.
