Sorø Old Cemetery
Sorø Old Cemetery ( Danish: Sorø Gamle Kirkegård), owned by Sorø Academy, is one of the oldest cemeteries still in use in Denmark. History It opened in connection with the establishment of Sorø Abbey Sorø Abbey was the preeminent and wealthiest monastic house in all of Denmark during the Middle Ages. Carl Emil Mundt
Carl Emil Mundt (4 April 1802 – 22 December 1873) was a Danish educator and politician. He was a member of the 1848 Danish Constituent Assembly, representing Sorø. He was the father of painter Emilie Mundt. Early life and education Mundt was born in Copenhagen, the son of goldsmith Philip Mundt (1740-1804) and Mette Christiane née Winther (1757-1827). He graduated from Metropolitan School in 1821. He visited Rngland together with his brother J.H. Mundt in 1925-26 and obtained a degree in theology from the University of Copenhagen in 1829. He obtained a master's degree in mathematics in 1842. Career Mundt was employed as a mathematics teacher at Sorø Academy the following year. He left Sorø Academy in connection with its reorganisation in 1849 but was awarded a temporary compensation and title of professor and that same year. Hans Henriksen Ussing (30 December 1911 – 22 December 2000) was a Danish scientist, best known for having invented the Ussing chamber. In the early 1950s Ussing was the first to describe the mechanism by which ions are actively transported across frog skin. He studied biology and geography at the University of Copenhagen. Anna Sarauw
Anna Elisabeth Sarauw née Elberling (1839–1919) was a Danish textile artist who collaborated with Kristiane Konstantin-Hansen and Johanne Bindesbøll in running a successful embroidery business in Copenhagen. She designed sewing patterns, with naturalistic motifs and stylized Egyptian, Indian and Pompeiian figures. Biography Born in Frederiknagore (now Serampore) in Danish India, Anna Elisabeth Elberling was the daughter of the Danish government representative Frederik Emil Elberling (1804–80) and Harriet Anna Fjellerup (1821–59). The oldest of nine children, she was brought up in the west of India. She learnt to sew as a child, completing a finely embroidered gown for her mother before she was 10 years old. The family moved back to Denmark in 1851. She helped to bring up her sisters, teaching them embroidery, especially after her mother's early death in 1859. Christian Molbech
Christian Molbech (8 October 1783 – 23 June 1857) was a Danish historian, literary critic, writer, and theater director. He was a professor of literature at the University of Copenhagen and was the founding editor of ''Historisk Tidsskrift'' Early life and education Christian Molbech was born and raised at Sorø on the island of Zealand in Denmark. He was the son of professor at Sorø Academy Johan Christian Molbech (1744–1824) and his wife Louise Philippine Friederike Tübell (1760–1829). He graduated from Sorø Academy in 1802. Career Molbech was employed at the Royal Danish Library in 1804. He was thus never formally trained as a historian.
