Sone Tatsuzō
was a Japanese architect noted for his use of western architectural styles in the later Meiji period. One of the famous disciples of Josiah Conder (architect), Josiah Conder. Early life and career Together with Katayama Tokuma, Tatsuno Kingo and Satachi Shichijiro, one of a group of renowned architectural students at the Imperial College of Engineering, Tokyo, and a protege of British architect Josiah Conder (architect), Josiah Conder. Dispatched to London in 1901 by the co-founder of Mitsubishi, Iwasaki Yanosuke, Sone returned to design and supervise construction of the Senshokaku, an elegant two story mansion built on a steep hillside overlooking the Nagasaki shipyards. Sone's most famous work is the Old University Library Building (1912), still standing on the Keio University main campus at Mita, Minato, Tokyo, Mita. Imperial College Of Engineering
The Imperial College of Engineering (工部大学校, ''Kōbudaigakkō'') was a Empire of Japan, Japanese institution of higher education that was founded during the Meiji era. The college was established under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Works (Japan), Ministry of Public Works for the training of young Japanese engineers. Supporting Japan’s rapid industrialization at the end of the 19th century, the college commenced teaching in October 1873 soon after the initial cohort of teaching staff arrived from United Kingdom. The college was an immediate precursor to the establishment of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo, Faculty of Engineering in 1877.
