Somerset is an unincorporated community in Orange County, Virginia, United States. It is the place where the roundabout at the former intersection of Virginia State Route 20 and Virginia State Route 231 is located. Frascati and Tetley are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Somerset Center Store Accident On May 27, 2020, a tractor trailer crashed into the Somerset Center Store on the Southbound VA 231 section of the roundabout, which was a normal intersection at the time. The driver failed to stop and crashed into the building. The 2 people inside evacuated safely, but the building was destroyed. State Route 20 (SR 20) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 15 (US 15) in Dillwyn north to SR 3 in Wilderness. Tetley is a historic home and farm complex located near Somerset, Orange County, Virginia. It was built about 1843, and is a two-story, five-bay, hipped-roof brick house on an English basement. The house has Federal and Greek Revival style design elements. Frascati is an early 19th-century Federal-style plantation house near Somerset in Orange County, Virginia. Frascati was the residence of Philip P. Barbour, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and statesman. History Frascati was built between 1821 and 1823 for Philip P. Barbour, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and statesman. Barbour's father, Thomas Barbour arrived in Orange County as a young man from Culpeper County. In 1806, Thomas Barbour and his wife, Mary, sold their home tract of to their son, Philip. Barbour entered into his "Articles of Agreement" with master builder John M. Perry on 7 November 1821.
