Solpugidae is a family of solifuges or sun spiders. Solpugidae have groups of papillae on their pedipalps or sensory organs. The papillae come out of sockets that are characterized with the function of mechanoreceptor, and contact chemoreceptors, which allows them to respond to stimuli such as touch and sound.[Paula E. In biology, a monotypic taxon is a taxonomic group (taxon) that contains only one immediately subordinate taxon. A monotypic species is one that does not include subspecies or smaller, infraspecific taxa. In the case of genera, the term "unispecific" or "monospecific" is sometimes preferred. In botanical nomenclature, a monotypic genus is a genus in the special case where a genus and a single species are simultaneously described. In contrast, an oligotypic taxon contains more than one but only a very few subordinate taxa. Frank Turk (biologist)
Frank Archibald Sinclair Turk (15 January 1911 – 14 February 1996) was a noted entomologist and adult educationalist. In addition to his published work on insects, Frank worked as an adult educationalist and ran a programme through the University of Exeter's Department of Extra-Mural Studies. He had a close relationship with several artists including, the artist Peter Lanyon's son Andrew Lanyon, Peter Liddle and Sven Berlin. Frank's wife Stella Turk, MBE, was also a published zoologist and worked with Frank in the field of adult education. Together they were instrumental in founding the Cornish Biological Record Unit at the University of Exeter's, Institute of Cornish Studies which was later incorporated into the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Solifugae Genera
Solifugae is an order of animals in the class Arachnida known variously as camel spiders, wind scorpions, sun spiders, or solifuges. The order includes more than 1,000 described species in about 147 genera. Despite the common names, they are neither true scorpions (order Scorpiones), nor true spiders (order Araneae).
