Soledad Puértolas
Soledad Puértolas Villanueva (born 3 February 1947 in Saragossa) is a Spanish writer, and on 28 January 2010 was named an '' inmortal'' or member of the Real Academia Española. She is a recipient of the Premio Planeta de Novela. Biography Puértolas started studying Political Sciences in Madrid, but political problems prevented her from pursuing this further. She then went to study Economic Sciences in Bilbao but again did not finish her course. She eventually took up studying journalism. She married at twenty-one and went to live with her husband in Trondheim, Norway. After returning to Spain, the couple moved to California, where she obtained an M.A. in Spanish and Portuguese Language and Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara and where she gave birth to a son, Diego Pita, now a writer. The Most Excellent
The Most Excellent ( (male) or (female), literally "Most Excellent Lord/Lady") is an honorific prefix that is traditionally applied to certain people in Spain and certain Spanish-speaking countries. Following Spanish tradition, it is an '' ex officio'' style (the holder has it as long as they remain in office, in the most important positions of state) and is used in written documents and very formal occasions. The prefix is similar (but not equal) to that of " His/Her Excellency", but in the 19th century "The Most Excellent" began to replace the former. Premio Planeta De Novela
The Premio Planeta de Novela is a Spanish literary prize, awarded since 1952 by the Spanish publisher Grupo Planeta to an original unpublished novel written in Spanish. It is one of about 16 literary prizes given by Planeta. Financially, it is the most valuable literary award in the world for an author or book, with the winner receiving €1,000,000. It was created by José Manuel Lara Hernández in 1952 and is awarded on 15 October, St Teresa's day, Teresa being the name of Lara's wife. Since 1974 there has also been an award to the runner up, which now stands at €200,000. Criticism In recent years its credibility has been called into question, with the first prize often awarded to authors published by Planeta, and the second to less known authors.
