Solberg–Hunterdon Airport , also known as Solberg Airport, is located in Readington Township, New Jersey, Readington Township, New Jersey, United States. History Founded in 1941 by Norwegian-born and -raised aviation pioneer Thor Solberg, Solberg Airport is a small general aviation airport located in central New Jersey. In 1985 Solberg was inducted into the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame. He is also considered a major aviation pioneer in his native country. Norway's oldest airport, Jarlsberg, is dedicated to his memory, and today operates as a major general aviation airport and parachute center near the ancient city of Tønsberg (town), Tønsberg in southeastern Norway. Solberg's son and namesake, Thor Solberg Jr., died on December 16, 2017. The airport is currently run by two generations of Thor Solberg's heirs. New Jersey Lottery Festival Of Ballooning
The New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning was a hot air balloon festival which had been held annually at the Solberg Airport in Readington Township, New Jersey since 1983. Its most recent lead sponsor was the New Jersey Lottery. In 2012, the festival hosted around 125 special shape and sport hot air balloons. It also had music concerts, crafters and vendors, food, carnival rides and fireworks, which attracted more than 175,000 people. It had more than fifty corporate partners. It was cancelled in both 2024 and 2025 and its future remains uncertain. Thor Solberg (March 28, 1893 – February 26, 1967) was a Norwegian-born aviation pioneer who made the first successful flight from the United States of America to Norway in 1935. He made the journey, which started in New York City, in an open-cockpit single-engine aircraft with no landing instruments. For this reason, he was restricted to an altitude of .
