FreshCo
FreshCo Ltd. is a Canadian chain of discount supermarkets owned by Sobeys. It was launched in March 2010. As of September 2024, there were over 125 FreshCo stores. In December 2017, Sobeys Inc. announced plans to re-brand up to 64 stores in western Canada currently under the Safeway and Sobeys names into the FreshCo banner. Until summer 2019, FreshCo used the slogan, "Fresher, Cheaper." Price Chopper Price Chopper had operated in Ontario in the 1990s under the ownership of Oshawa Group. Needs Convenience
Needs Convenience, or simply Needs, is a chain of convenience stores throughout Atlantic Canada. The Needs logo and trademark are owned by Sobeys. Individual stores are operated by independent franchisees. Sobeys is the exclusive supplier to the chain. Many stores operate from 6am-midnight; however, there are some 24-hour locations in larger urban centres. The Needs chain has installed gasoline stations at some locations using either the Ultramar Limited, Shell or Sobeys Fast Fuels brands. IGA is a group of independent grocers in Canada supplied by Sobeys, which franchises the name from IGA, Inc. Acquired by Sobeys as part of its purchase of the Oshawa Group Ltd., it now operates primarily in Quebec. The IGA operations in Atlantic Canada were sold to Loblaw Companies Limited (except for Edmundston, Shediac and Dieppe which runs as IGA-Co-op, previously acquired by Sobeys New Brunswick) and were restructured under its existing brands. Big 8 Beverages is a soft drinks company based in the town of Stellarton, near New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada. Established in 1930 and owned by the Sobeys chain of supermarkets since 1986, the company produces fizzy soda drinks of a wide range of flavours, and also bottles spring and distilled water. History The Big 8 brand name was created in the 1930s by Fenton and Day Beverages, and is now owned by Sobeys. Created in the 1930s by Fred Day and his brother-in-law George Fenton. They named their cola Big 8 after the eight-cent price for a bottle roughly a litre in size. Coca-Cola wanted to purchase Fenton and Day in 1946, but wouldn't pay what the owners thought the company was worth. Pete Luckett (born 1953) is a British-Canadian entrepreneur and media personality known as a culinary fruit and vegetable expert. A native of Nottingham, England, Luckett emigrated to Canada in 1979, settling in Saint John, New Brunswick.
