''So There'' is the first studio album by Ben Folds and the yMusic Ensemble, released on September 11, 2015. The album includes eight chamber pop songs and one piano concerto performed with the Nashville Symphony. Background and recording Initially, Folds was jointly commissioned by the Nashville Ballet, Nashville Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra to write a piano concerto, and composed "Concerto For Piano & Orchestra: Movements 1, 2 and 3". The pieces were recorded at Fold's Grand Victor Sound studio (better known as Nashville's historic RCA Studio A) with the 83-piece Nashville Symphony orchestra and producer Elliot Scheiner. Ben Folds
Benjamin Scott Folds (born September 12, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After playing in several small independent bands throughout the late 80s and into the early 90s, Folds came to prominence as the frontman and pianist of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five from 1993 to 2000, and again during their reunion from 2011 to 2013. He has recorded a number of solo albums, most recently '' Sleigher'' (2024). He has also collaborated with musicians such as Regina Spektor, "Weird Al" Yankovic and yMusic, and undertaken experimental songwriting projects with actor William Shatner and authors such as Nick Hornby and Neil Gaiman. Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School through 10th grade, before moving with his family to Moorestown, New Jersey. He completed high school at Moorestown Friends School, graduating in 2000. Moose studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He began a master's program in American studies at Columbia University, but left to join Antony and the Johnsons on tour in 2005. Phone In A Pool
"Phone in a Pool" was the first single from Ben Folds' 2015 album ''So There''. It reached number 28 on the ''Billboard'' Triple-A (adult album alternative) chart in 2015. He debuted the song at Bonnaroo in June 2015. The song is about how Folds was frustrated with his phone - and the expectations others had of their access to him - so much so that he threw it into the pool at the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood. To his surprise, Kesha was there and tried to help him by fishing it out, but to no avail - the phone didn't survive the swim. Kesha developed bronchitis the next day. yMusic is an American sextet chamber ensemble from New York City. Consisting of a trumpet, flute, clarinet, violin, viola, and cello, the group was formed in Brooklyn by trumpeter CJ Camerieri and violinist Rob Moose in 2008. Elliot Scheiner
Elliot Ray Scheiner (born March 18, 1947) is a music producer, mixer and engineer. Scheiner has received 27 Grammy Award nominations (winning eight), four Emmy nominations (winning two Emmy Awards for his work with the Eagles on their farewell tour broadcast, and the documentary film '' History of the Eagles''), three TEC Awards nominations, a TEC Hall of Fame inductee, and was a recipient of the Surround Pioneer Award. A piano concerto, a type of concerto, is a solo composition in the classical music genre which is composed for piano accompanied by an orchestra or other large ensemble. Piano concertos are typically virtuosic showpieces which require an advanced level of technique.
