Snatch (weightlifting)
The snatch is the first of two lifts contested in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, weightlifting (also known as Olympic weightlifting) followed by the clean and jerk. The objective of the snatch is to lift the barbell from the ground to overhead in one continuous motion. There are four main styles of snatch used: snatch (full snatch or squat snatch), split snatch, power snatch, and muscle snatch. The full lift is the most common style used in competition, while power snatches and muscle snatches are mostly used for training purposes, and split snatches are now rarely used. Any of these lifts can be performed from the floor, from the hang position, or from blocks. In competition, only lifts from the floor are allowed. Karlos Nasar ( Bulgarian: Карлос Насар; born 12 May 2004) is a Bulgarian weightlifter who is an Olympic, two-time World and three-time European champion and one of the youngest weightlifting world record holders ever. He was named Bulgaria's Sportsman of the Year for 2024. Nasar also received the 2024 Ikar Sports Award. Early life Nasar was born in Paris to a Bulgarian mother and a Lebanese father. Li Wenwen (; born 5 March 2000) is a Chinese weightlifter competing in the women's +87 kg division. She is a double Olympic champion, as well as the double world and 3 time Asian champion. In 2021, she set the current world records for both clean & jerk and snatch.
