''Smooth'' is the fourth studio album by the American musician Gerald Albright, released in 1994 on Atlantic Records. The album peaked at No. 25 on the ''Billboard'' Top R&B Albums chart and No. 2 on both the ''Billboard'' Jazz Albums and Contemporary Jazz Albums charts. Production Albright strove to create an R&B album; in addition to saxophone, he also played flute and keyboards. Vesta Williams, Lalah Hathaway, and Will Downing are among the many vocalists on the album. Howard Hewett sang on the cover of " This Is for the Lover in You". Stanley Clarke played bass on "Sedona". The liner notes were written by Magic Johnson. Gerald Albright (born August 30, 1957) is an American jazz saxophonist. He earned Grammys for the albums ''24/7 (Gerald Albright and Norman Brown album), 24/7'' in 2012 and ''Slam Dunk'' in 2014 and was nominated for ''New Beginnings (Gerald Albright album), New Beginnings'' in 2008 and for ''Sax for Stax'' in 2009. Biography Albright began piano lessons at an early age, although he professed no interest in the instrument. His love of music picked up when he was given a saxophone that belonged to his piano teacher. It further reinforced when he attended Locke High School. Lee Mack Ritenour ( ; born January 11, 1952) is an American jazz guitarist who has been active since the late 1960s. Biography Ritenour was born in 1952, in Los Angeles, California. At the age of eight he started playing guitar and four years later decided on a career in music. When he was 16 he played on his first recording session with the Mamas & the Papas. He developed a love for jazz and was influenced by guitarist Wes Montgomery. At the age of 17 he worked with Lena Horne and Tony Bennett. Gregory Arthur Phillinganes (born May 12, 1956) is an American keyboardist, vocalist, and arranger. A session musician, Phillinganes has contributed to numerous albums over a broad array of artists and genres. Patrick Lawrence Moten (March 17, 1957 – November 22, 1999) was an American musician, songwriter, producer, and arranger. He primarily performed on piano and organ. Moten was best known as the musical director for Bobby Womack and Gerald Albright. He also produced Anita Baker's debut album ''The Songtress''. History The EWI was invented by Nyle Steiner, his second electronic wind instrument design.
