Marika Gombitová
Marika Gombitová (; born 12 September 1956) is a Slovak singer-songwriter and musician. Once a member of Modus (band), Modus, Gombitová started to gain early acclaim as a former female vocalist of the group. Nevertheless, she gradually developed her publicity, public image as a solo artist, making Boľavé námestie, own debut on gramophone record, short play in 1977. Subsequently, after topping the local record chart, music charts with "Študentská láska" (1978), her debut studio album, set entitled ''Dievča do dažďa'' (1979) saw its eventual results on OPUS Records. The album's lead single, lead "Vyznanie", earned several music awards; most notably at the Intervision Song Contest, 4th Intervision Song Contest held in Poland (1980). In years to come later, the love song, love anthem was to be celebrated as "The Hit of the Century" (2007) in her country. "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" is a song written by Neil Sedaka. The song was first recorded by Sedaka and appeared on his 1975 studio album, '' The Hungry Years''. The following year the song was made popular when covered by the pop music duo Captain & Tennille, who took their version to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Background In 1976, "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" was a hit single for Captain & Tennille, who had recorded another Sedaka song "Love Will Keep Us Together" a year earlier. Their version of "Lonely Night (Angel Face)" first hit the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart on January 24, 1976, entering at number 69. It rose to number 3 on the Hot 100 and number 1 on the ''Billboard'' Easy Listening chart in March 1976. On the '' Cashbox'' chart, it also reached number 1. The 100 Greatest Slovak Albums of All Time is a list of the best album releases issued by Slovak recording artists. As the first such list presented in Slovakia, it was published by ''Nový čas'' daily on 22 September 2007. The list is entirely composed of Slovak, or else of formerly Czechoslovak artists, featuring all albums published in the country of origin from the 1960s onwards. Some of nominated full-length records could have been performed also in a different language (occasionally in English but partially). Ranking itself was based on votes received from twenty-five selected native-born musicians, critics and/or industry figures. Each of them voted ten most significant Slovak LPs from the past four decades in the country.
