Sligo Rovers F.C.
Sligo Rovers Football Club is an Irish professional association football, football club playing in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland. The club is based in Sligo in the west of Ireland. The club was founded in 1928 and have been in the League of Ireland since 1934. The club is a co-operative venture, owned by the people of Sligo. Rovers have played at The Showgrounds, Sligo Town, The Showgrounds since their inception. In 2013, they won a third FAI Cup in four years, and also became the 2012 League of Ireland, 2012 Premier Division Champions, winning the league with two games to spare. In total, they have won three league titles, five FAI Cups and two League Cups. The Showgrounds, Sligo
The Showgrounds is a stadium in Sligo, Ireland, which has been home of Sligo Rovers F.C., Sligo Rovers since the club was formed in 1928. History The Showgrounds was leased until 1968 when it was then purchased for Sligo Rovers by a trust foundation representing the people of Sligo. Under the terms of the purchase it can never be mortgaged, sold or used for any commercial purposes other than sport and leisure. Connacht Junior Cup (association Football)
The Connacht Junior Cup or Connaught Junior Cup is a cup competition organised by the Connacht Football Association for junior association football clubs. In the seasons when there has been no active Connacht Senior League or Connacht Senior Cup, this junior cup competition has effectively been the top level competition for non-League of Ireland clubs affiliated to the CFA. Paddy Monaghan
Paddy "Monty" Monaghan was an Irish footballer who played for Sligo Rovers and the Irish Free State national team. Monaghan played for Sligo before they entered senior football, winning the Leinster Senior League, the Metropolitan Cup and the FAI Intermediate Cup. He played in the club's first senior match in 1934, against St James's Gate in the League of Ireland Shield. He went on to make a total of 165 appearances for Sligo Rovers, scoring 96 goals, of which 57 were in senior football. He was part of the Sligo team that won the 1936-37 League of Ireland title and reached the 1939 FAI Cup Final. Iveagh Grounds
The Iveagh Grounds is a multi-purpose stadium, multi-purpose sports facility based in Drimnagh/Crumlin, Dublin. It is the home base of several sports clubs and teams who are associated with the Guinness Athletic Union. These include St James's Gate F.C. and St James Gaels GAA. It is named after Edward Guinness, 1st Earl of Iveagh, who purchased the site and then donated it to the union.
