Sleeper (band)
Sleeper are an English Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1992. The group had eight UK top 40 hit singles and three UK top 10 albums during the 1990s. Their music was also featured in the soundtrack of the pop cultural hit movie ''Trainspotting (soundtrack), Trainspotting''. The band split up in 1998, but reunited in 2017. History First three albums (1992–1998) Jon Stewart met Louise Wener at Manchester University in 1987 in a political philosophy class. They played in a number of bands at university, including jazz outfit the Lime Street Blues Band, then after graduating in 1988, moved to London to seek gigs. "Statuesque" is a song by Britpop band Sleeper, written by the band's vocalist and guitarist Louise Wener. "Statuesque" was the fourth and final single to be released from Sleeper's second album '' The It Girl'' and became the group's last top twenty hit on the UK Singles Chart. Background "Statuesque" soundtracked a key scene at the end of the 1996 hit movie '' Trainspotting'', and featured on the additional soundtrack album '' Trainspotting #2: Music from the Motion Picture, Vol. #2'' the following year. ''The It Girl'' is the second studio album by English Britpop band Sleeper, released in May 1996. It was their most successful album, selling over 300,000 copies in the UK alone and featuring the top-20 singles "What Do I Do Now?", " Sale of the Century", "Nice Guy Eddie", and "Statuesque". The album was released internationally, with the US version having a different track listing and alternative photos in the liner booklet. Background The album was recorded in London over the winter of 1995 and 1996 and production was helmed by Stephen Street. Much of the content of the album is autobiographical. "Lie Detector" was written about Wener's frustration with "how women are stereotyped and put into boxes, and not allowed to escape the way they were originally viewed." ''Smart'' is the debut studio album by English rock band Sleeper, released on 13 February 1995 by Indolent Records. It was mixed by Stephen Street. The album's sleeve photo is of the Mercury Seven astronauts. A 25th anniversary deluxe edition was released in 2020 on both vinyl and CD. The CD version has 10 extra tracks. Background Vocalist and guitarist Louise Wener came across guitarist Jon Stewart while the pair were attending Manchester University in 1992. The following year, they moved to London and formed a band with bassist Diid Osman and drummer Andy Maclure of the Crawl. The band, christened Surrender Dorothy, started performing live by mid-1993; they signed to Indolent, who were impressed with the track "Stay", and changed their name to Sleeper. Blur are an English rock band formed in London in 1988. The band consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James, and drummer Dave Rowntree. Dale Winton
Dale Jonathan Winton (22 May 1955 – 18 April 2018) was an English radio DJ and television presenter. He presented the shows '' Supermarket Sweep'' from 1993 until 2001 and again in 2007, the National Lottery game show '' In It to Win It'' between 2002 and 2016 and the 2008 series of '' Hole in the Wall''. Winton also presented '' Pets Win Prizes'' (1995–96) and '' The Other Half'' (1997–2002). Early life Winton was born on 22 May 1955 to a Jewish father, Gary Winton, and actress Sheree Winton, a Jewish convert.
