Six String Nation
Six String Nation is public art and history project conceived by Jowi Taylor and centred around a steel-string acoustic guitar built from a variety of artifacts collected by Taylor representing diverse cultures, communities, characters and events from every province and territory of Canada. Jowi Taylor
Jowi Taylor (born June 15, 1962) is a Toronto-based radio personality, public speaker and originator of the Six String Nation guitar, also known as Voyageur. As a radio broadcaster, producer, writer and host, Taylor is known for his work at CBC Radio's weekly music and news programme, ''Global Village (radio show), Global Village,'' which ran from 1997 to 2007. He also hosted and co-produced the eight-part series ''The Wire: The Impact of Electricity on Music'', and its follow-up six-part series ''The Nerve: Music and the Human Experience'' with Chris Brookes and Paolo Pietropaolo. For his work in radio, he has received the Prix Italia, a Gabriel Award, a New York Festivals Award, and a Peabody Award. Orta San Giulio
Orta San Giulio is a town and ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin and about northwest of Novara. The town itself is built on a promontory which juts out from the eastern bank of Lake Orta close to Isola San Giulio, an island which also falls within the municipal boundaries. Festival Du Voyageur
The Festival du Voyageur is an annual 10-day winter festival that takes place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The event is held during each February in Winnipeg's French quarter, Saint-Boniface, and is western Canada's largest winter festival. It celebrates Canada's fur-trading past and unique French heritage and culture through entertainment, arts and crafts, music, exhibits, and displays. The word " Voyageur" refers to those who worked for a fur-trading company and usually travelled by canoe. Don Ross (guitarist)
Donald James Ross, or Don Ross, (born November 19, 1960) is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist. He is the only person to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship twice (1988 and 1996). His album ''Huron Street'' reached the top ten on the ''Billboard'' New-age chart. Biography Ross was born in Montreal, Quebec to Scottish and Mi'kmaq parents. He studied composition at the music department of York University in Toronto with David Mott, James Tenney and Phil Werren. African Guitar Summit
African Guitar Summit is a group of nine Canadian musicians, all of African origin, who perform traditional songs from their native countries. History The African Guitar Summit was organized in Toronto as part of a performance project for CBC Radio's ''On Stage'' program. Musicians were, from Guinea, guitarist Alpha Yaya DialloDavid Dacks"Alpha Yaya Diallo" ''Exclaim!'', June 27, 2010. and on balafon Naby Camara. Catherine MacLellan
Catherine MacLellan is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter, based in Prince Edward Island. Early life The daughter of Canadian songwriter Gene MacLellan, MacLellan was born in Burlington, Ontario but raised in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Before beginning her solo recording career, she sang with The New Drifts, a four-piece band featuring Island musicians James Phillips (guitar, mandolin), Stéphane Bouchard (bass) and Dave Gould (drums & percussion). Rob Baker (guitarist)
Rob Baker (born April 12, 1962) is a Canadian guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist for the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip. He has also released an album with the side project Stripper's Union in 2005. Life and career Baker was born in Kingston, Ontario. He is the son of the late Judge P.E.D. Baker. Baker is a former student of Queen's University where he studied visual art. Until the Tragically Hip's fifth release, '' Day for Night'', he was credited in the liner notes as Bobby Baker.
