Sir William Hickman, 2nd Baronet
Sir William Hickman. 2nd Baronet (8 January 1629 – 10 February 1682) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1682. Hickman was the son of Sir Willoughby Hickman, 1st Baronet and his wife Bridget Thornhaugh, daughter of Sir John Thornhaugh of Fenton, Nottinghamshire. He inherited the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1649. In 1660, Hickman was elected Member of Parliament for East Retford in the Convention Parliament. He was re-elected MP for East Retford for the Cavalier Parliament in 1661 and held his seat through successive parliaments until his death in 1682. He was a Commissioner of the Ordnance from 1679 to his death. Hickman died in 1682 at the age of 53. Sir Edward Nevill, 1st Baronet
Edward Neville (1651–85) was the member of parliament for Retford during the Exclusion Parliament. He represented the borough from 1679–81 and from 1685-6. Personal life Neville (also spelt Nevill and Nevile) was descended from the Neviles of Lincolnshire, who had settled in Nottinghamshire in the 13th century. He was descended from George Neville of Ragnall and Barbara Hercy (c 1522-c 1622) of Grove (daughter of Humphrey Hercy of Grove and Lady Elizabeth Hercy (nee Digby)). Sir John Hercy bequeathed Grove Hall to his sister Barbara in 1570. Edward Neville was the only son of Edward Neville of Grove and his wife Anne, the daughter of Sir Peter Scott. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Hickman Baronets
There have been two Baronetcies created for persons with the surname Hickman, one in the Baronetage of England and one in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. The Hickman Baronetcy, of Gainsborough in the County of Lincoln, was created in the Baronetage of England on 16 November 1643 for Willoughby Hickman. The second Baronet represented East Retford in the House of Commons. The third Baronet sat as member of parliament for Kingston upon Hull, East Retford and Lincolnshire. The title became extinct on the death of the fifth Baronet in 1781. The Hickman Baronetcy, of Wightwick in the parish of Tettenhall in the County of Stafford, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 25 August 1903 for the iron and steel manufacturer Alfred Hickman.
