Sir Ralph Dutton, 1st Baronet
Sir Ralph Dutton (c.1645-1721), 1st Baronet, was an English landowner and politician. Life He was the younger son of the royalist Sir Ralph Dutton (1601–46) of Standish, Gloucestershire, a gentleman of the Privy Chamber extraordinary to Charles I, and Mary Duncomb, the co-heiress of a London haberdasher and granddaughter of Sir Thomas Bennett. He married Grizel, the daughter of Sir Edward Poole of Kemble, Wiltshire, about 1674. She died in 1678, having borne a daughter. In that year her husband became a baronet, for a payment of £1100. The following year he inherited Sherborne from his childless brother William. In 1679 he married Mary, heiress of Peter Barwick of London, physician to Charles II. They had several children baptized at Westminster. Sir Ralph represented Gloucestershire in parliament in 1679–81 and in 1689–98, when he was aligned with the Whigs. Thomas Bennett (lord Mayor)
Sir Thomas Bennet (1543 - 1627) was an English merchant and Lord Mayor of London in 1603-04. A leading London mercer, on 7 February 1594, Bennet was elected an Alderman of the City of London for Vintry Ward. He was Sheriff of London for 1594-95 and Master of the Mercers' Company in 1595-96. He became Master Mercer again in 1602 and, in 1603, Bennet was elected Lord Mayor of London. Bennet was knighted by King James I on 26 July 1603 and, in 1604, he was elected Alderman of Lime Street Ward, serving until 1612. He was President of the Royal Bethlem and Bridewell Hospitals from 1606 to 1613 and in 1610 became Master Mercer again. In 1612 he transferred as Alderman for Bassishaw Ward which he represented until 1627. He was also President of St Bartholomew's Hospital from 1623 until his death on 20 February 1627. Edward Poole
Sir Edward Poole (1617 – 1673) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1673. Poole was the eldest son of Sir Neville Poole of Kemble and his first wife Frances Poole, daughter of Sir Henry Poole of Saperton, Gloucestershire. He matriculated at Magdalen Hall, Oxford on 8 May 1635, aged 18. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1636. In November 1640, Poole was elected Member of Parliament for Wootton Bassett in the Long Parliament. He was a commissioner for sequestration for Wiltshire in 1643 and a commissioner for assessment for Wiltshire from 1643 to 1648 In 1647 he became commissioner for appeals for Oxford University and in 1648 commissioner for militia in Wiltshire. He was excluded from parliament in 1648 under Pride's Purge. In 1659, Poole was elected MP for Cricklade in the Third Protectorate Parliament. Sherborne House, Gloucestershire
Sherborne House is a large house in the village of Sherborne, Gloucestershire, England. It is a former country house that has been converted into flats and has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building. The Dutton family owned Sherborne manor from c. 1522. A U-shaped house was built on this site in 1651–3 by Valentine Strong (d.1662) for John Dutton and was rebuilt in 1829–1834 for John Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne by Lewis Wyatt. The house, which reproduces the style of the 17th-century building, has a square plan with a central courtyard and a three-storey facade. Interior decoration of the principal rooms was by Anthony Salvin, c. 1841. The adjoining Church of St Mary Magdalene, with origins in the late 13th century and partly rebuilt in the mid 19th century, is also Grade II* listed. Sir John Dutton, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Dutton, 2nd Baronet (1684–1743), of Sherborne, Gloucestershire, was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1727 to 1734. Dutton was baptized on 2 January 1684, the eldest surviving son of Sir Ralph Dutton, 1st Baronet MP of Sherborne and his second wife Mary Barwick, daughter of Peter Barwick of London, who was physician in ordinary to Charles II. He was admitted at Middle Temple in 1701 at the expense of his grandfather, since his father had wasted away the family fortune. He married under a settlement of 17 June 1714, with £12,500, Mary Cullen, daughter of Sir Rushout Cullen, 3rd Baronet MP. She died in May 1719 and he married secondly (with £20,000) Mary Keck, daughter of Francis Keck of Great Tew, Oxfordshire on 1 June 1728. He succeeded his father in the baronetcy in 1721.
