Sir Patrick Murray, 6th Baronet
Sir Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre, 6th Baronet FRSE (3 February 1771 – 1 June 1837) was a Scottish advocate, landowner and politician, serving as MP for Edinburgh from 1806 to 1812 and Baron of the Exchequer in 1820. He is sometimes referred to as Sir Peter Murray. Life He was born at Ochtertyre House on 3 February 1771 the eldest son of Lady Augusta Mackenzie, daughter of George Mackenzie, 3rd Earl of Cromartie, and her husband William Murray of Ochtertyre. He was educated at the High School in Edinburgh then studied law at the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh. He became an advocate in 1793. In 1796 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Rev James Finlayson, James Gregory, and John Playfair. In 1799 he was appointed King's remembrancer in the exchequer for life. In 1800, on the death of his father, he became 6th Baronet of Ochtertyre. John Watson Gordon
Sir John Watson Gordon (1788 – 1 June 1864) was a Scottish Portrait painting, portrait painter and president of the Royal Scottish Academy. Life and work Gordon was born in 1788, in Edinburgh, the eldest son of Captain Watson, R.A., a cadet of the family of Watson of Overmains, in the county of Berwick. He was educated specifically to prepare him for enrolling in the Royal Engineers. He entered as a student in the government school of design, under the management of the Board of Manufactures. he showed a natural aptitude for art, and his father was persuaded to allow him to adopt it as his profession. Captain Watson was himself a skilful draughtsman, and his brother George Watson (painter), George Watson, afterwards president of the Royal Scottish Academy, was a highly respected portrait painter, second only to Henry Raeburn, Sir Henry Raeburn, who was a friend of the family. Scottish National Portrait Gallery
National Galleries Scotland: Portrait is an art museum on Queen Street, Edinburgh. Portrait holds the national collections of portraits, all of which are of, but not necessarily by, Scots. It also holds the Scottish National Photography Collection. Since 1889 it has been housed in its red sandstone Gothic revival building, designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and built between 1885 and 1890 to accommodate the gallery and the museum collection of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Thomas Goff Lupton
Thomas Goff Lupton (3 September 1791 – 18 May 1873) was an English mezzotint engraver and artist, who engraved many works by J. M. W. Turner and other notable British painters of the 19th century. He also produced some pastels, exhibited at the Royal Academy. He played an important part in advancing the technical aspect of engraving by introducing soft steel plates. Life and work Early life and training Lupton was born in Clerkenwell, London, the son of William and Mary Lupton. His father, a working goldsmith, apprenticed him to George Clint by whom he was instructed in mezzotint engraving. Later he became assistant to Samuel William Reynolds, and, when Samuel Cousins was articled to the latter in 1814, Lupton gave him his first lesson. Sir George Murray (6 February 1772 – 28 July 1846) was a British soldier and politician from Scotland. William Keith Murray
Lt Colonel William Keith-Murray 7th Baronet of Ochtertyre FRSE FRSSA (19 July 1801 – 16 October 1861) was a Scottish peer, landowner and soldier. Life He was born William Murray at Ochtertyre on 19 July 1801 the son of Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre and Lady Mary Anne Hope, daughter of John Hope, 2nd Earl of Hopetoun by his third wife. In 1834 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposer was James Skene. He resigned from the Society in 1839. In 1843 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Scottish Society of the Arts. In 1837 on the death of his father he succeeded to the baronetcy. He died on 16 October 1861.
