Sir John Wentworth, 1st Baronet ( – October 1631), of Gosfield, Essex, was an English aristocrat. Early life He was the eldest of two sons born of John Wentworth of Gosfield Hall, and the former Cicely Unton.Cokayne, George Edward, editor, ''The Complete Baronetage, 5 volumes (no date (c. 1900)''; reprint, Gloucester, U.K.: Alan Sutton Publishing, 1983), volume I, page 100. Gosfield Hall
Gosfield Hall is a English country houses, country house in Gosfield, near Braintree, Essex, Braintree in Essex, England. It is a Grade I listed building. The house was built in 1545 by Sir John Wentworth, a member of Thomas Wolsey, Cardinal Wolsey’s household, and hosted royal visits by Queen Elizabeth I and her grand retinue throughout the middle of the 16th century. John Wentworth (died 1613), John Wentworth, High Sheriff of Essex, who died in 1613, left "a splendid inheritance" to his eldest son, Sir John Wentworth, 1st Baronet, who ruined the family through extravagance. Sir Henry Unton (or Umpton) (c. 155723 March 1596) was an Elizabethan era, Elizabethan English people, English diplomat. Life Unton was born at Wychwood and was the second son of Sir Edward Unton (high sheriff), Edward Unton (d. 1583) of Littleworth, Vale of White Horse, Wadley House, near Faringdon, Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). His mother Anne Dudley, Countess of Warwick (died 1588), Lady Anne Seymour (d. 1588) was a daughter of the Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, Duke of Somerset, the Lord Protector under Edward VI of England, Edward VI. Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Cleveland (159125 March 1667), was an English landowner and Royalist general during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, described by one historian as a "much under-rated field commander". William Grey, 1st Baron Grey of Werke (1593 - 1674) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1621 to 1622. He supported the Parliamentary cause in the English Civil War. Earl of Winchilsea is a title in the Peerage of England. It has been held by the Finch-Hatton family of Kent, and united with the title of Earl of Nottingham under a single holder since 1729. The Finch family is believed to be descended from Henry FitzHerbert, Lord Chamberlain to Henry I (r. 1100–1135). The name change to Finch came in the 1350s after marriage to an heiress of the Finch family. The Herbert family of Wales, Earls of Aylesford, Earls of Pembroke, share common ancestry but bear differenced arms. A later member of the family, Sir William Finch, was knighted in 1513.
