Sir John Hotham, 3rd Baronet (2 August 165525 August 1691) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1689 to 1690. Hotham was the son of Sir John Hotham, 2nd Baronet and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Sapcote Beaumont, 2nd Viscount Beaumont of Swords. He inherited the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1689. In 1689, Hotham was elected Member of Parliament for Beverley in succession to his father. Hotham died at the age of 36 and the baronetcy passed to a cousin Charles. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which Laws in Wales Acts 1535 and 1542, incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Kingdom of Great Britain, Great Britain and Kingdom of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Sir John Hotham, 2nd Baronet (21 March 163229 March 1689) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1685 and in 1689. Hotham was the son of Captain John Hotham. He inherited the baronetcy in 1645 after his father and grandfather the 1st Baronet were executed by the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War. In 1660, Hotham was elected Member of Parliament for Beverley in the Convention Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Beverley in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament and sat until 1685. Sir Charles Hotham, 4th Baronet ( 1663 – 8 January 1723), of Scorborough and later of Beverley and South Dalton, was a British Army officer and Whig politician who sat in the English House of Commons and British House of Commons from 1695 to 1723. Biography Hotham was born in Bermuda, the only son of Charles Hotham (priest), Charles Hotham (1615 – ' 1672), and Elizabeth (died 1685), daughter of Stephen Thompson of Humbleton, Yorkshire. His father was a prominent Nonconformist who lost his living as rector of Wigan after the Restoration (England), Restoration and emigrated with his wife to Bermuda to take up a ministry. Minister Hotham lived there for the rest of his life. Shortly before his father's death, Hotham was sent to London where he lived under the care of his cousin Richard Thompson. Baron Hotham
Baron Hotham, of South Dalton in the County of York, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1797 for the naval commander Admiral William Hotham, with remainder to the heirs male of his father. Hotham was the third son of Sir Beaumont Hotham, 7th Baronet, of Scorborough (see below), and in 1811 he also succeeded his nephew as eleventh Baronet. Lord Hotham never married and on his death in 1813 he was succeeded in both titles by his younger brother Beaumont, the second Baron and twelfth Baronet. He had previously represented Wigan in the House of Commons. Beaumont Hotham, 3rd Baron Hotham, grandson of the second Baron, fought at the Battle of Waterloo and was later a General in the Army and sat as a Member of Parliament. He died unmarried and was succeeded by his nephew, the fourth Baron, the son of Rear-Admiral George Frederick Hotham, brother of the third Baron. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century; however, in its current usage it was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. Baronets rank below barons, but seemingly above all knights grand cross, knights commander and knights bachelor of the British chivalric orders, that are in turn below in chivalric precedence than the most senior British chivalric orders of the Garter and the Thistle.
