Sir Edward Stradling, 5th Baronet
Sir Edward Stradling, 5th Baronet (11 April 1672 – 5 April 1735) was a Welsh landowner and politician and a baronet in the peerage of England. He was the eldest surviving son of Sir Edward Stradling, 4th Baronet of St Donat's Castle, Glamorganshire and educated at Christ Church, Oxford. He succeeded his father in 1685. Career Stradling was Member of Parliament for Cardiff, 1698, 1700–01, 1710–22, and Sheriff of Glamorgan, 1709–10. He died in 1735, having married Elizabeth, the daughter of Sir Edward Mansel, 4th Baronet, M.P., of Margam, Glamorganshire, with whom he had two sons. The elder son, Edward Edward is an English given name. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant).
