Sir Edward Osborne, 1st Baronet
Sir Edward Osborne, 1st Baronet, of Kiveton (bap. 12 December 1596 – 9 September 1647) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1628 and 1640. Osborne was the son of Sir Hewett Osborne (bap. 13 March 1567 – 1599, brother of Alice Osborne, wife of Sir John Peyton, 1st Baronet) and Joyce Fleetwood. He was made a baronet on 13 July 1620. In 1628 Osborne was elected Member of Parliament for East Retford. He was elected MP for York in the Short Parliament of 1640 and MP for Berwick in November 1640 for the Long Parliament. When Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, Lord President of the Council of the North, was sent to Ireland as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in 1632, he retained the office of Lord President, but appointed Sir Edward as his vice-president. Thomas Belasyse, 1st Viscount Fauconberg
Thomas Belasyse, 1st Viscount Fauconberg (1577 – 18 April 1653), styled Baron Fauconberg between 1627 and 1643 and Sir Thomas Belasyse, 2nd Baronet between 1624 and 1627, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1597 and 1624 and was raised to the peerage in 1627. He was an ardent supporter of the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Before the Civil War, Belasyse and his family had a long running confrontation with Sir Thomas Wentworth , a close advisor to King Charles I, primarily over local government issues in Yorkshire. This confrontation did not shake Belasyse's support for the monarchy and before and during the Civil War, he and his son Henry, were ardent supporters of the Royalist cause. Charles honoured Belasye in appreciation, but towards the end of the First Civil War, Belasye was forced to flee abroad. Duke of Leeds was a title in the Peerage of England. It was created in 1694 for the prominent statesman Thomas Osborne, 1st Marquess of Carmarthen, who had been one of the Immortal Seven in the Revolution of 1688. William Allanson
Sir William Allanson (died 6 December 1656) was an English merchant draper and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1653. Allanson was the son of Christopher Allanson of Ampleforth, North Yorkshire. He was a draper and became a freeman of the city of York in 1610. He was twice Lord Mayor of York, once when he was knighted by King Charles I at York on his visit there 26 May 1633. Roger Jaques
Sir Roger Jaques (died 1653) was an English merchant and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1640. Jaques was a merchant and chief magistrate of York and purchased an estate at Elvington. He became an alderman of the city in 1638 and was Lord Mayor of York in 1639. He was knighted, together with Thomas Widdrington on the visit of King Charles to York in March 1639. In April 1640, Jaques was elected Member of Parliament for York in the Short Parliament. Jaques supported the King in the Civil War, and in December 1644 was removed by parliament from the office of Alderman of York. Jaques married Mary Rawdon, daughter of Marmaduke Rawdon. Henry Stanhope, Lord Stanhope
Henry Stanhope, Lord Stanhope KB (died 29 November 1634), known as Sir Henry Stanhope until 1628, was an English nobleman and politician. He was the second and next surviving son of Philip Stanhope, 1st Earl of Chesterfield and his first wife Catherine Hastings, daughter of Francis Hastings, Lord Hastings, oldest son of George Hastings, 4th Earl of Huntingdon. Amongst his younger brothers were Ferdinando Stanhope and Arthur Stanhope, while his nephew was James Stanhope, 1st Earl Stanhope. He entered the English House of Commons in 1625, sitting for Nottinghamshire in the following two parliaments until 1626. Sir Francis Wortley, 1st Baronet
Sir Francis Wortley, 1st Baronet (1591–1652), poet and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1624 and 1626. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Life Wortley was the son of Sir Richard Wortley, of Wortley Hall, Yorkshire and his wife Elizabeth Boughton daughter of Edward Boughton, of Cawston, Warwickshire (afterwards Countess of Devonshire). He succeeded his father in the family estates on 25 July 1603. He matriculated at Magdalen College, Oxford on 17 February 1609, aged 17. Thomas Osborne, 1st Duke of Leeds, (20 February 1632 – 26 July 1712), was a prominent English politician. Under King Charles II (and known at the time as Lord Danby), he was the leading figure in the government for around five years in the mid-1670s. He fell out of favour due to corruption and other scandals, and was impeached and eventually imprisoned in the Tower of London for five years until the accession of James II of England in 1685.
