Sir Edmund Pye, 1st Baronet
Sir Edmund Pye, 1st Baronet ( – 1673) was an English landowner, Scrivener and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1661 to 1673. Pye was the son of Edmund Pye, of Leckamsteed, Buckinghamshire and of St Martin's Ludgate, London, scrivener, and his wife Martha Allen, sister of Alderman Allen of London. He was created baronet of Leckamsteed on 23 April 1611 and was knighted at Whitehall four days later. After the Civil War, he was voted a delinquent by Parliament and fined £3,065. He acquired the manor and estate of Bradenham, Buckinghamshire, which became his main residence. In 1661, he was elected Member of Parliament for Wycombe in the Cavalier Parliament. Pye died at the age of about 65 and was buried on 28 April 1673 at Bradenham when the Baronetcy became extinct. Scrivener
A scrivener (or scribe) was a person who could read and write or who wrote letters to court and legal documents. Scriveners were people who made their living by writing or copying written material. This usually indicated secretarial and administrative duties such as dictation and keeping business, judicial, and historical records for kings, nobles, temples, and cities. Scriveners later developed into public servants, accountants, lawyers and petition writers, and in England and Wales, scrivener notaries. Current role Scriveners remain common in countries where literacy rates remain low, for example India; they read letters for illiterate customers, as well as write letters or fill out forms for a fee. Sir Henry Johnson (13 August 1661''England & Wales, Christening Index, 1530-1980'' – 29 September 1719) of The Gate House, Blackwall, Middlesex; Bradenham, Buckinghamshire; and Toddington, Bedfordshire was a British shipbuilder and a Member of Parliament for 30 years. Pye Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for the Pye family. Both are now extinct. The Baronetcy Pye of Leckhampstead was created on 27 April 1641 in the Baronetage of England, for Edmund Pye, who had purchased the Manor of Leckhampstead, Buckinghamshire in 1628. He was Member of Parliament for Wycombe in 1661. The baronetcy became extinct on his death in 1673. His daughter Martha married the John Lovelace, 3rd Baron Lovelace and their daughter Martha Johnson succeeded her paternal grandmother as 8th Baroness Wentworth. The Baronetcy of Pye of Hone was created in the Baronetage of England on 13 January 1665 for John Pye of Hone, Derbyshire second son of Sir Robert Pye of Faringdon, Berkshire (1558–1662), Auditor of the Exchequer to James I and Charles I. His son, the second Baronet, acquired an estate at Clifton Hall, Clifton Campville, Staffordshire in 1700 and served as Member of Parliament for Derby in 1701. Robert Sawyer (Attorney General)
Sir Robert Sawyer, of Highclere Castle (1633–1692) was the Attorney General for England and Wales (1681–1687) and, briefly, Speaker of the English House of Commons. Robert was a younger son of Sir Edmund Sawyer, of Heywood Lodge, at White Waltham, in Berkshire, who was Auditor of the Exchequer. He attended Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he was a contemporary of Samuel Pepys and later became a benefactor of the library there. Upon leaving university, he became a barrister of the Inner Temple and took part in a number of well-known cases. He later became treasurer of Inner Temple. Sawyer was elected MP for High Wycombe in 1673 and was knighted four years later. He was elected speaker in 1678, but had to resign in under a month because of health problems. Sir John Borlase, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Borlase, 2nd Baronet (1640 – 1 February 1689) was an English politician. Born in Bockmer End in Buckinghamshire, he was the son of Sir John Borlase, 1st Baronet and Alice Bankes, daughter of Sir John Bankes, Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas and Mary Hawtrey. His nephew was Borlase Warren. John Borlase was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1658. In 1672, he succeeded his father as the 2nd baronet. A year later, he entered the English House of Commons as member of parliament (MP) for Wycombe, representing the constituency until 1681. From 1685 until his death in 1689, he was also returned for Great Marlow. Borlase died unmarried and was buried in Stratton Audley in Oxfordshire. With his death the baronetcy became extinct. Sir John Borlase, 1st Baronet (21 August 1619 – 8 August 1672) of Bockmer, Medmenham, Buckinghamshire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1640 and 1644. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Background Borlase was born at the Popham family seat of Littlecote House, Wiltshire, the eldest son of Sir William Borlase and his wife Amy Popham, daughter of Sir Francis Popham. Sir Richard Browne, 2nd Baronet (before 1634 – September 1684) was a barrister and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Browne was the son of Sir Richard Browne, 1st Baronet, and his wife Bridget Bryan. He was admitted as a barrister of Lincoln's Inn, on 12 November 1646. In March 1660, Browne was elected Member of Parliament for Wycombe in the Convention Parliament. There was a double return between Browne and another candidate Scott and Browne was not declared elected until 5 May 1660. Edmund Petty
Edmund Petty (c. 1621 – 1661) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Petty was the son of Maximilian Petty of Thame, Oxfordshire, and his first wife Elizabeth Waller, daughter of Robert Waller of Beaconsfield. He matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford aged 15 on 22 January 1636. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1637 and was called to the bar in 1644. He was recorder of Wycombe by 1651. Baron Wentworth is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created in 1529 for Thomas Wentworth, who was also ''de jure'' sixth Baron le Despencer of the 1387 creation. The title was created by writ, which means that it can descend via female lines (according to the male-preference cognatic primogeniture).
