Simpsonville is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, Howard County, Maryland, United States. History People and nature have long flourished beside the Patuxent River, Middle Patuxent River. Over 12,000 years ago, Native Americans hunted deer and gathered acorns and other wild food in the woods and waters. People from Woodland Indian cultures settled nearby approximately 2,000 years ago, leaving traces of their lives in the earthenware pottery and stone tools they left behind. In 1741, John Hobbs acquired the patent on the lands around Simpsonville. The land passed to Rachel Worthington in 1789, followed by Richard Owings in 1796. The Rouse Company
The Rouse Company was a publicly traded shopping mall and community developer from 1956 until 2004, when GGP Inc., General Growth Properties (GGP) purchased the company. It was founded by Hunter Moss and James Rouse, James W. Rouse in 1939. Atholton High School is a high school in Columbia, Maryland, United States and is a part of the Howard County Public School System. The school hosts an Army JROTC program. Atholton is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. A postal office operated from May 26, 1897, to November 1900 and again from 1903 to July 1917. Atholton was founded at the crossroads of Old Columbia Pike, Guilford Road and Clarksville Pike. The James and Anne Robinson Nature Center is a nature education facility situated on 18 acres of park land adjacent to the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area. Geothermal heating/air-conditioning, porous paving, solar panels, water conservation methods and other features make this building environmentally-friendly and have earned it the LEED Certified Platinum designation. Each year, the Center runs over 450 programs including field trips, public programs, birthday parties, home school and scout programs.
