Simpson Investment Company
The Simpson Investment Company is a privately held holding company based in Seattle, Washington in the US Pacific Northwest that specializes in manufacture of forest products. Founded as a logging company in 1890 by Sol Simpson, the company is now owned by the Reed family. Former divisions The Simpson Lumber Company conducted logging operations and was based in Shelton, Washington. Four mills were sold to Interfor and the Shelton property was sold to Sierra Pacific Industries. The "Simpson Tacoma Kraft Company" produced pulpwood and linerboard products. Previously owned by St. Regis the mill on the shore of Commencement Bay was acquired by Simpson in 1985 and sold to RockTenn in 2014. High Steel Bridge
The High Steel Bridge is a truss arch bridge that spans the south fork of the Skokomish River, on National Forest Service road #2340 in Mason County, Washington, near the city of Shelton. The bridge is long, and its deck is above the river. History Built in 1929, the bridge originally carried a rail line whose construction made logging operations possible in new areas of the Olympic Peninsula. Along with the Vance Creek Bridge, it was one of two similar bridges built for the rail line by the Simpson Logging Company, which contracted its construction to the American Bridge Company. Vance Creek Bridge
The Vance Creek Bridge is an arch bridge in the Satsop Hills of Mason County, Washington that was built for a logging railroad owned by the Simpson Logging Company in 1929. At in height, it is the second-highest railroad arch in the United States after the nearby High Steel Bridge. It was decommissioned in the 1970s, during the decline of logging on the Olympic Peninsula. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and to the Mason County Historic Preservation Register in 2008. Sacramento Municipal Utility District
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is a community-owned electric utility serving Sacramento County and parts of Placer County. It is one of the ten largest publicly owned utilities in the United States, generating the bulk of its power through natural gas (estimated 35.2% of production total in 2020) and large hydroelectric generation plants (29.1% in 2020). SMUD's green power (renewable) energy output was estimated as 33.8% in 2020.
