Simcoe Street
The numbered roads in the Regional Municipality of Durham account for about of the county road system in the Canadian province of Ontario. The Durham Region Works Department owns and maintains the regional roads and regional highways, while the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) owns and maintains the King's Highways in the region. The 67 (7 King's Highways, 4 Regional Highways, and 56 Regional Roads) numbered roads provide access to the entirety of the region. Highway 401 forms the backbone of the region, traveling from the western boundary of the region to the eastern boundary alongside Lake Ontario, and serving over 200,000 vehicles per day. Several provincially maintained highways existed in the region prior to 1998, when they were transferred to municipal government in the region as part of a province-wide downloading of highways. Ontario Highway 12
King's Highway 12, commonly referred to as Highway 12 and historically known as the Whitby and Sturgeon Bay Road, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway connects the eastern end of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with Kawartha Lakes (via Highway 7), Orillia and Midland before ending at Highway 93. It forms the ''Central Ontario Route'' of the Trans-Canada Highway system from north of Sunderland (Highway 7) to Coldwater ( Highway 400). Highway 12 connects several small towns along its route, and bypasses a short distance from many others. Brooklin, Ontario
Brooklin is a community in the town of Whitby, Ontario, Whitby, Ontario, Canada, north of central Whitby, at the south junction of Ontario Highways Highway 12 (Ontario), 12 and Highway 7 (Ontario), 7. While Brooklin proper is confined to a specific area, people in the surrounding area largely identify their location as "Brooklin" rather than "Whitby". Newcastle, Ontario
Newcastle is a community in the municipality of Clarington in Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. The community inherits the former name of the present-day municipality which it belongs to. Newcastle is located about 80 km east of Toronto, and about 18 km east of Oshawa and Bowmanville on Highway 401. It is also the southern terminus of Highway 35 and Highway 115. It has been named one of the best small towns in Ontario, by ''Comfort Life'', a website for retirement living in Canada. History Newcastle was incorporated as a town in 1856. Bowmanville is a community of approximately 40,000 people located in the Municipality of Clarington, Regional Municipality of Durham, Durham Region, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately east of Toronto, and east of Oshawa along Highway 2 (Ontario), Highway 2. Bowmanville was first incorporated as a town in 1858, but later incorporated with the neighbouring townships of Clarke and Darlington in 1974 forming the Town of Newcastle, which was renamed in 1994 to the Municipality of Clarington. Dundas Street () is a major historic arterial road in Ontario, Canada. The road connects the city of Toronto with its western suburbs and several cities in southwestern Ontario.
