Silvio Schäufelberger
Silvio Schaufelberger (born 21 March 1977) is a Swiss bobsledder who has competed from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. He won a silver medal in the four-man event at the 1999 FIBT World Championships. Bobsleigh or bobsled is a winter sport in which teams of 2 to 4 athletes make timed speed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sleigh. International bobsleigh competitions are governed by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (formerly the FIBT). The first bobsleds were built in the late 19th century in St. Moritz, Switzerland, by wealthy tourists from Victorian Britain who were staying at the Badrutt's Palace Hotel, Palace Hotel owned by Caspar Badrutt. FIBT World Championships 1999
The FIBT World Championships 1999 took place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy (Bobsleigh) and Altenberg, Germany (Skeleton). Cortina hosted the championships for the ninth time, previously doing so in 1937 (Two-man), 1939 (Four-man), 1950, 1954, 1960, 1966, 1981, and 1989 (Bobsleigh).
