Silverwood, Michigan
Silverwood is an unincorporated community on the border of Rich Township, Lapeer County and Dayton Township, Tuscola County in Michigan at . History When the narrow gauge Port Huron and Northwestern Railway was built through here in 1882, the residents applied for a post office. One suggested naming it something easy to remember, and the post office named "Easy" opened on 13 April 1882, with James R. Chapin as the first postmaster. The name changed to "Rollo" on 27 March 1890, and changed again on 2 May 1892 to "Silverwood", after the nearby stands of white pine. A subdivision plat for the Village of Silverwood was filed on 19 July 1899. The Pere Marquette Railroad purchased the Port Huron and Northwestern Railway and changed its rails to standard gauge. Kurt E. Damrow (born February 16, 1962) is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Early life and education Damrow was born on February 16, 1962, in Bad Axe, Michigan. Damrow graduated from the Nashville Auctioneering Institute and Spec's Howard School of Broadcast Arts. Military career On January 16, 1985, Damrow made a delayed enlistment into the Air Force Reserve Command in Detroit. The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. Michigan's 10th Congressional District
Michigan's 10th congressional district is a United States congressional district in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, covering a region known as the Thumb. It consists of all of Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Sanilac Counties; as well as most of northern Macomb County and eastern Tuscola County. District boundaries were redrawn in 1992, 2002, and 2012 due to reapportionment following the censuses of 1990, 2000, and 2010. The current district is fairly conservative. Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Sanilac Counties tend to support Republican candidates, as do the northern townships in Macomb and the eastern townships in Tuscola. Michigan's 5th congressional district is a United States congressional district in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The district is represented by Republican Tim Walberg. Predecessors From 1873 to 1993, the 5th was based in the Grand Rapids area of Western Michigan. Its most notable member was Gerald Ford, who in 1974 became the 38th President of the United States upon the resignation of Richard Nixon, at the height of the Watergate Scandal. In 1993, this district essentially became the 3rd district, while the 5th was redrawn to take in Bay City, Saginaw and the Thumb, the core of the old 8th district.
