Silvano Donati
Silvano Donati is a physicist in the field of photonics. He is an emeritus professor at the University of Pavia where he has been Full Professor for 30 years and created the Electro-Optical Engineering Group. Career Donati started his career at CISE (a Research Center of the Electrical Generating Board) in 1966, initially with a 1-year CNR Scholarship, and from 1967 to 1975 hired full-time by CISE. There he carried out research on nuclear electronics and detectors, and on the nascent photonic instrumentation, notably telemeters, interferometers, and speckle pattern vibration sensors. Meanwhile, from 1967 to 1971 he was a teacher of the course in "Electronics" at ISTIM, the Master on mechanical engineering. Photonics
Photonics is a branch of optics that involves the application of generation, detection, and manipulation of light in the form of photons through emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification, and sensing. Even though photonics is a commonly used term, there is no widespread agreement on a clear definition of the term or on the difference between photonics and related fields, such as optics. Photonics is closely related to quantum electronics, where quantum electronics deals with the theoretical part of it while photonics deal with its engineering applications. IEEE 802 is a family of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards for local area networks (LANs), personal area networks (PANs), and metropolitan area networks (MANs). Optica Fellow
The Optica Fellow is a membership designation of Optica (formerly known as The Optical Society (OSA)) that denotes distinguished scientific accomplishment. The bylaws of this society only allow 10% of its membership to be designated as an Optica Fellow. The Optica Fellow requires peer group nomination. The nominee An Optica member can only become an Optica Fellow when nominated by a peer group of other current Optica Fellows.
