''Silent Running'' is an album by 65daysofstatic. It is an alternate soundtrack to the 1972 science fiction film, ''Silent Running''. It was originally commissioned by Glasgow Film Festival The Glasgow Film Festival is an annual film festival based in Glasgow, Scotland. The festival began in 2005. By 2015, the festival had seen audience figures top 40,000 for two consecutive years. 2008 2008's festival took place between 14–24 Feb ... at the beginning of 2011 as a live re-score performed by the band. In July 2011, the band announced their intention to fund a studio recording of the Silent Running soundtrack by raising $7500 through the crowd-funding website Indiegogo. By the end of the funding period they had raised over $27,000. Silent Running was released in mid-November 2011 as a numbered, limited edition vinyl LP to those Indiegogo funders who had paid for this option, and as a digital download from the band's website. 65daysofstatic (often abbreviated as 65dos, 65days, or simply 65) are a post-rock band from Sheffield, England. Formed in 2001, the band is composed of instrumentalists Paul Wolinski, Joe Shrewsbury, Rob Jones and Simon Wright. The band's music has been described as noisy, electronic, guitar-driven instrumentals, interspersed with live drums and off-beat sampled drums akin to those of IDM artists, although they have continued to evolve their sound by incorporating electronic music, drum and bass and glitch music. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. ''Heavy Sky'' is the fourth studio EP by 65daysofstatic. It was recorded in Sheffield, during the We Were Exploding Anyway sessions. It was released on 25 October 2010 in Europe and the United States, and on 15 January 2011 in Japan. It is their first EP to be released on Hassle Records. The only single, "Tiger Girl (Wishful Thinking Edit)", was released on 18 October. Style Musically, it follows the same electronic music, electronic/post-rock course as We Were Exploding Anyway. Closing track ''Guitar Cascades'' has similarities to the closing track on We Were Exploding Anyway, ''Tiger Girl''. The Japanese version contains 3 bonus tracks, including an instrumental version of WWEA track ''Come To Me'', an alternate version of ''The Wrong Shape'' and a new, more epic-sounding track, ''String Loop''. ''AbsolutePunk'' was a website, online community, and alternative music news source founded by Jason Tate (the most recent CEO). The website mainly focused on artists who are relatively unknown to mainstream audiences, but it was known to feature artists who have eventually achieved crossover success, including Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, The Gaslight Anthem, Anberlin, Thrice, All Time Low, Jack's Mannequin, Yellowcard, Paramore, Relient K, and A Day to Remember. ''Silent Running'' is a 1972 American environmental-themed post-apocalyptic science fiction film. It is the directorial debut of Douglas Trumbull, and stars Bruce Dern, Cliff Potts, Ron Rifkin, and Jesse Vint. Plot In the future, all plant life on Earth is becoming extinct. As many specimens as possible have been preserved in a series of enormous greenhouse-like geodesic domes attached to large spaceships, forming part of a fleet of American Airlines space freighters, currently just outside the orbit of Saturn. Freeman Lowell, one of four crewmen aboard, is the resident botanist and ecologist on one of these ships, the ''Valley Forge.'' He carefully maintains a variety of plants for their eventual return to Earth and the reforestation of the planet.
