Sigurður Kári Kristjánsson
Sigurður Kári Kristjánsson (born May 9, 1973) is an Icelandic Member of Parliament for the Independence Party (''Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn''). Kristjánsson graduated with a law degree from the University of Iceland in 1998. He was chairman of The National Youth Organisation of the Independence Party (''Samband ungra sjálfstæðismanna'') from 1999 to 2001. He has served as Member of the Icelandic parliament Althing since the parliament elections in 2003 and as vice chairman of Heimssýn, the cross-political organisation of Icelandic Eurosceptics Euroscepticism, also spelled as Euroskepticism or EU-scepticism, is a political position involving criticism of the European Union (EU) and European integration. Independence Party (Iceland)
The Independence Party ( ) is a Conservatism, conservative List of political parties in Iceland, political party in Iceland. It is currently the second largest party in the Althing, Alþingi, with 14 seats. The chairman of the party is Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir and the vice chairman of the party is Jens Garðar Helgason. It was formed in 1929 through a merger of the Conservative Party (Iceland), Conservative Party and the Liberal Party (Iceland, historical), Liberal Party. This united the two parties advocating the dissolution of the History of Iceland#Iceland under Norwegian and Danish kings (1262–1944), Union of Denmark and Iceland; dissolution was achieved in 1944, during the German occupation of Denmark. The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme Parliament, national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ('Thing (assembly), thing fields' or 'assembly fields'), about east of what later became the country's capital, Reykjavík. After Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing lost its legislative power, which was not restored until 1904 when Iceland gained home rule from Denmark. Heimssýn ( English: ''World View'') is an organisation of Icelandic eurosceptics who actively campaign against Iceland becoming of a member of the European Union founded in June 2002. It was founded in June 2002. Ragnar Arnalds, former MP and Minister of Finance, served as chairman of the organisation from its foundation until 2009. The current chairman is Jón Bjarnason, former Member of the Althing and Minister of Agriculture, and the vice-chairman is Jóhanna María Sigmundsdóttir, Member of the Althing for the nationalist Progressive Party. The organization is sponsored by Bændasamtök Íslands, an agrarian lobby group of Icelandic farmers, and receives free advertising in their newspaper Bændablaðið.
