Sigrún Sjöfn Ámundadóttir (born 23 November 1988) is an Icelandic former basketball player. During her career, she has won the Icelandic championship two times, in 2006 and 2007, and the Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup, Icelandic Basketball Cup four times. She is the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild kvenna all-time career leader in rebounds and in the league's top four in scoring, assists, steals and games played. Playing career After coming up through the junior ranks of Skallagrímur women's basketball, Skallagrímur, Sigrún started her senior career with Haukar women's basketball, Haukar in 2004, and helped the club to two national championships in 2006 and 2007. She joined KR women's basketball, KR prior the 2007-2008 season. She averaged 11.3 points and 11.3 rebounds for the season, helping KR to the second best record in the league. Basketball is a sport with five players on the court for each team at a time. Each player is assigned to different Position (team sports), positions defined by the strategic role they play. Svenska Basketligan, or the Swedish Basketball League (SBL), is the premier league for professional basketball in Sweden. The league was originally established in 1992 as Basketligan and was known as that prior to the season of 2006–07, but when the Swedish company Obol Investment signed an agreement with the Swedish Basketball Federation in early October 2006, the league was renamed Obol Basketball League (OBL). In January 2007 the name was changed to Ligan, meaning simply the League. History On October 6, 2006, the Swedish Basketball Federation signed a 15-year agreement with Swiss company Obol Investment. The Icelandic Women's Basketball Company Cup, commonly known as the Women's Company Cup (Icelandic: Fyrirtækjabikar kvenna), was an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland that was organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. Guðrún Ósk Ámundadóttir (born 7 May 1987) is an Icelandic basketball basketball coach and player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. As a player, she won the national championship twice and the Icelandic Cup five times. Club career After coming up through the junior programs of Skallagrímur, Guðrún started her senior team career with Haukar in 2003 and helped the team win two national championships and five Icelandic Cups. She played for KR from 2007 to 2009, winning the Icelandic Cup during her later season with the team. She returned to her hometown team of Skallagrímur in 2015. In her first game, she posted a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. In 2017 she helped Skallagrímur to the Cup finals where it eventually lost to Valur. Birna Ingibjörg Valgardsdóttir (born 19 January 1976) is an Icelandic former basketball player who won eight Icelandic championships, in a record twelve trips to the national finals, and five Icelandic Cups. Hildur Sigurðardóttir (born 15 October 1981) is an Icelandic basketball coach and player. She is the former head coach of Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Breiðablik and an assistant coach to the Icelandic women's national basketball team. The Valur women's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. In 2019, it won its first national championship. Recent history Valur played in the 2018 Úrvalsdeild finals, losing to Haukar 2–3. In April 2019, Valur won its first ever national championship when it beat Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild finals 3–0. The 2019–20 Úrvalsdeild kvenna is the 63rd season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 2 October 2019. On 13 March 2020 the season was postponed for at least four weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, coronavirus outbreak in the country. On 18 March, the rest of the season was canceled. Grindavík women's basketball, Grindavík was relegated and Valur women's basketball, Valur was named divisional champions for having the best record at the time of the cancelation but no national champions would be named for the season.
