Sidmouth is a locality and small rural community in the local government area of West Tamar, in the Western Tamar Valley region of Tasmania. It is located about north-west of the town of Launceston. The Tamar River forms the north-eastern boundary. The 2016 census determined a population of 394 for the state suburb of Sidmouth. History The locality name may have been derived from Sidmouth, a town in Devon, England. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th Census in Australia, national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Batman Bridge
The Batman Bridge is a modern road bridge that carries the Batman Highway across the Tamar River, between Whirlpool Reach, Hillwood at its eastern end and Sidmouth / Deviot midpoint at its western end, in north Tasmania, Australia. The bridge connects the Batman Highway with the West Tamar Highway (state route A7) and the East Tamar Highway (state route A8). The bridge overlooks the Deviot Sailing Club and is named in honour of John Batman, a Launceston businessman and co-founder of Melbourne. Sidmouth () is a town on the English Channel in Devon, South West England, southeast of Exeter. Tamar Valley, Tasmania
The Tamar Valley is a valley in Tasmania, Australia (lutruwita). It runs north-west from the northern city of Launceston to the coast either side of the Tamar River, a distance of approximately 70 km. There are more than 20 vineyards lining the valley, making it the largest wine region in lutruwita Tasmania. Tourists are guided by the Tamar Valley Wineroute. The main varieties of grapes grown are pinot noir and chardonnay. The body of water which flows through Tamar Valley extends from the Bass Strait to Launceston, and is commonly referred to as Tamar River despite it actually being an estuary.
