Siddharth Varadarajan
Siddharth Varadarajan (born 1965) is an American journalist and editor in India. He was editor of the English language national daily ''The Hindu'' from 2011 to 2013. He is one of the founding editors of the Indian digital news portal ''The Wire'', along with Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu. Early life, education and activism Siddharth Varadarajan was born to an IAS officer, Muthusamy Varadarajan, and Usha, a businesswoman. He did his initial schooling at La Martiniere in Lucknow and Mayo College, Ajmer. After 1978, Siddharth Varadarajan studied at the Brockley County state school in London, his father having been appointed to a position at the Indian High Commission in London. He received an undergraduate degree in economics at the London School of Economics where he was exposed to the Left-wing politics in the UK, which came to influence his journalistic career. Nelson Poynter
Nelson Poynter (1903–1978) was an American publisher and media proprietor. He was the owner of the Times Publishing Company, and the co-founder of the ''Congressional Quarterly''. He is the namesake of the Poynter Institute. Early life Poynter was born in Sullivan, Indiana, in 1903. His family moved to Florida nine years later when his father, Paul Poynter, bought the '' St. Petersburg Times''. Nelson returned to Indiana to get his B.A. from Indiana University Bloomington in 1924 and went on to complete a master's degree from Yale University in 1927. While in his junior year at Indiana University Bloomington, he was the editor in chief of the Indiana Daily Student. According to the British newspaper ''The Independent'', the ''Tehelka'' was founded by Tarun Tejpal, Aniruddha Bahal and another colleague who worked together at the '' Outlook'' magazine after "an investor with deep pockets" agreed to underwrite their startup. Subramanian Swamy (born 15 September 1939) is an Indian politician, economist and statistician. Before joining politics, he was a professor of Mathematical Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is known for his Hindu nationalist views. Swamy was a member of the Planning Commission of India and was a Cabinet Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government.
