He ultimately finished the tournament in second place due to tiebreaks. In May 2024, he scored his final GM norm at the Sharjah Masters after defeating Andrey Esipenko Andrey Evgenyevich Esipenko (; born 22 March 2002) is a Russian Grandmaster (chess), chess grandmaster. Grandmaster (GM) is a Chess title, title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Chess Championship, World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally the title can be revoked for Cheating in chess, cheating. Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan (born 11 September 1999) is an Indian chess grandmaster. He won the Indian chess championships twice, in 2018 and 2019. Personal life Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan was born on 11 September 1999 in Thirunagar, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. His father died when he was three and his mother worked as a Life Insurance Corporation agent to support the family. He learned to play chess at the age of seven from his paternal grandfather, who introduced him to the game in an attempt to quell his desires to constantly leave the house and play cricket with other boys. Carlos Daniel Albornoz Cabrera (born 26 December 2000) is a Cuban chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster (GM) by FIDE in 2019. As of August 2023, he is ranked third in Cuba. Career In 2018, he won the 30th Carlos Torre Memorial, finishing with 7/9 points and beating Lelys Stanley Martinez Duany, Yuri González Vidal, and Evgeny Shtembuliak on tie-break. Andrey Evgenyevich Esipenko (; born 22 March 2002) is a Russian Grandmaster (chess), chess grandmaster. He won the European Youth Chess Championship, European U10 Chess Championship in 2012, and both the European Youth Chess Championship, European U16 and World Youth Chess Championship#Under-16, World U16 Chess Championship in 2017.
