Shoreham, Victoria
Shoreham is a town located on the shore of Western Port bay on the Mornington Peninsula in the Australian state of Victoria. It lies within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area, about south-east of the central business district of Melbourne. Shoreham recorded a population of 679 at the 2021 census. Shoreham is in the southern Mornington Peninsula region on the Western Port, located on its shores around the mouth of Stoney Creek. It is a coastal recreation resort rich in artistic history, notable for its pine-covered cliffs, foreshore reserve, and Honeysuckle Beach. Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant
The Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant was a completed General Electric nuclear boiling water reactor located adjacent to Long Island Sound in East Shoreham, New York. The plant was built between 1973 and 1984 by the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO). The plant faced considerable public opposition after the 1979 Three Mile Island accident and the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. There were large protests and two dozen local groups opposed the plant. In 1983, Suffolk County determined that the county could not be safely evacuated in the event of a serious nuclear accident at the plant. Governor Mario Cuomo ordered state officials not to approve any LILCO-sponsored evacuation plan—effectively preventing the plant from operating at full capacity. The plant was completed in 1984 and in 1985 LILCO received federal permission for low-power (5 percent power) tests. The ''Shoreham''-class sloops were a class of eight Sloop-of-war, sloops of the Royal Navy built in the early 1930s. Lakeshore East is a master-planned mixed use urban development being built by the Magellan Development Group in the Loop community area of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located in the northeastern part of the Loop, which, along with Illinois Center, is called the New Eastside. The development is bordered by Wacker Drive to the north, Columbus Drive to the west, Lake Shore Drive to the east, and East Randolph Street to the south. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill created the master plan for the area. The development, which had been scheduled for completion in 2011, was set for completion in 2013 by 2008. Development continued with revised plans for more buildings in 2018 and continuing construction of the Vista Tower in 2019. The Omni Shoreham Hotel is a historic resort and convention hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C., built in 1930 and owned by Omni Hotels. Shoreham was a station on the Wading River Extension on the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. This is an abandoned station just east of the intersection of North Country Road and Randall Road, along what is now access for Long Island Power Authority power lines. History The Wardenclyffe station was originally built in 1900 in close proximity to Nikola Tesla's wireless transmission station Wardenclyffe Tower. The station was built during the extension of the Port Jefferson Branch to Wading River, which was once slated to continue eastward and rejoin the Main Line at either Riverhead or Calverton. In 1910, the station's name was changed to Shoreham. The line east of Port Jefferson was abandoned in 1938 and the station was torn down in 1950. Shoreham is an incorporated village in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 561 at the 2020 census. It is officially known as the ''Incorporated Village of Shoreham''. History In 1901, Nikola Tesla built a laboratory and began constructing the Wardenclyffe Tower at Shoreham, with the intent of using it to wirelessly transmit communications and electricity. The tower was dismantled in 1917, and today a nearby static inverter plant receives electricity via the HVDC Cross Sound Cable.
