Sholay
''Sholay'' (, ) is a 1975 Indian epic action-adventure film directed by Ramesh Sippy, produced by his father G. P. Sippy, and written by Salim–Javed. The film is about two criminals, Veeru (Dharmendra) and Jai (Amitabh Bachchan), hired by a retired police officer ( Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the ruthless dacoit Gabbar Singh ( Amjad Khan). Hema Malini and Jaya Bhaduri also star, as Veeru and Jai's love interests, Basanti and Radha, respectively. The music was composed by R D Burman. The film was shot in the rocky terrain of Ramanagara, in the southern state of Karnataka, over a span of two and a half years, beginning in October 1973. After the Central Board of Film Certification mandated the removal of several violent scenes, ''Sholay'' was released as a 198-minute long film. Salim–Javed
Salim–Javed were an Indian screenwriting duo, composed of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who worked primarily in Hindi cinema. They were among the first Indian screenwriters to achieve star status, and are regarded as among "Hindi cinema's greatest screenwriters". They worked together on 24 films between 1971 and 1987, of which 20 were commercially and critically successful. Gabbar Singh (character)
Gabbar Singh is a fictional character and the antagonist of the 1975 Bollywood film ''Sholay''. It was written by the duo Salim–Javed, consisting of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Played by Amjad Khan, he is depicted in ''Sholay'' as a dacoit with an evil laugh much like "El Indio", the robber, from the Western film ''For a Few Dollars More'', who leads a group in looting and plundering the villages in the region of Ramgarh. Dwarka Divecha (Dwarkadas Divecha, March 19, 1918 – January 5, 1978) was an Indian actor and cinematographer. Early life Divecha was born in Mumbai, India. Career Divecha worked as a cameraman and cinematographer on about 30 movies. Amjad Khan (21 October 1943 – 27 July 1992) was a renowned Indian actor and film director. He worked in over 132 films in a career spanning nearly twenty years. He was the son of the actor Jayant. Dacoity is a term used for "banditry" in the Indian subcontinent. The spelling is the anglicised version of the Hindi word डाकू (ḍākū); "dacoit" is a colloquial Indian English word with the meaning "a robber belonging to an armed gang".
